Baking skill rant

I can't believe that after so many years baking hasn't been turned into a base game skill. It's ridiculous that wedding cakes from MWS, pies from Cottage living and several desserts from base game are still under the gourmet gooking/home cooking tag. It's messing up the immersion so badly.
I mean, tons of other stuff from packs have been turned into BG, I don't think baking skill would harm anyone - quite the opposite! I have GTW and I know I would prefer it... I mean, there's much gameplay left in the game pack to justify making one skill BG, right?
I think there should be a whole rehaul already, the recipe system is quite messed up as it is at the moment.

You probably have some other cooking mod that is conflicting with the cup-caker-maker mod then. The mod itself doesn't even have a single-cupcake option, only the platter of them.

@sof2106 I just wish they reorganized the fridge and stove. I liked the the Srsly Complete Cooking Overhaul mod for this reason, it moves a lot of stuff around, like cakes to the baking menu and make you use the baking skill instead. But it hasn't been updated with the new recipes this year yet.

I want to use that mod so badly. But i'm not willing to use a mod that breaks any time they add new recipes. >.< It's in my bookmarks of "mods to use when they stop updating the game regularly" though.

@Stormkeep Yes I took it out too for the food updates. I noticed it was missing the new carnaval foods. What other cooking/food mods or CC do you have?

Ravasheen has a mod that allows you to make cupcakes in the oven! That's great! I will definitely check that one out

Yep, here's a direct link to it: https://ravasheen.com/download/a-dough-able-cupcake-maker/

What it adds is an object you can put out on the counter that looks like a piping bag or sprinkle bag. You click the object to start baking, but then the sims use the actual oven nearby to do the job. It was done like that so there was no need to do overrides on the oven menus which is what causes most cooking mods to "break", or fail to show new recipes, when new foods are added.

That's awesome! I will download it tomorrow. I was using a mod for that which is now broken. I was considering Srsly Sims mod since it's been updated today, but I'm not sure I'm ready for a mod that extensive just yet.

This topic is fascinating, because a new thread with someone venting about it shows up like every couple days.

I agree they should make it a base game skill and actually MOVE a bunch of the cooking/gourmet cooking recipes into the skill which most certainly belong there.
They could leave all the GTW recipes as still exclusive to it in the GTW pack, and add some kind of entrepreneur skill that makes running a business easier as you get skill ranks to keep the number of pack-exclusive skills the same. We should have had some kind of business owner skill in the pack in the first place.

Cupcake machine is actually BG and cooks Cupcake recipes (Cooking skill). The baking recipes (Pastries) came with GTW.
  • After they've showed all these cakes in MWS announcement I expected they'll use this opportunity to make baking Bas Game and order all their recipes finally. Surprised they didn't. I agree currently all baked goods are in a horrible mess and need to be systemized. As a GTW user I won't mind such a change. There still plenty of expansion features (unlike recent ones) so I won't feel robbed or something.

@Stormkeep Ahh must be then. That's too bad. I do have a few cooking mods. I'll have to take them out and see, but actually those are my custom food mods so I don't think I can choose cupcakes over new food recipes..
