Base - Changing Tables

Changing Tables should be in the base game...I mean that's a staple to infants why would they not be available?
I downloaded a cc one but of course it's just a dresser which stinks.

I have no idea of how or why EA made the decisions they did with this iteration of the Sims. I do recall a statement made by one Dev, years ago now, when presenting to the developers her ideas, that things would roll out as they are and at some point, we would all understand. Beyond that, I'm totally clueless.

I do know they were available in Sims2. It was just a matter if your Sims could afford one or not. In the meantime, they simply threw the used diaper over their shoulders and somebody had to pick them up to throw them away properly. Certainly, it made me determined to find the Simoleons to get that changing table!
  • I agree. This feels like a basic furniture piece for infants. It belongs in base game. I don't mind growing together giving a more complex infant gameplay, but changing diapers is part of base game.
  • I like to live in micro homes, even in the very rare times that I play with an infant. I am so glad that we do not NEED a changing table. In real life, the times that I have lived in the same home as infants, everyone was very poor and babies usually did not have all the stuff that modern Western babies are expected to have.

I am sorry that others do not have the things in their game that they have in real life. We all like to feel represented in the game. I am just so glad that I do not NEED to use the changing table to clean up my babies. It represents my reality NOT to have a changing table.
  • For me it's not even about the fact of diapers being throw on the floor which is unrealistic in itself. It's the point that these were as you stated available in the base game in previous iterations of The Sims and it also helps fill out the nursey. It's look so bare without a changing table.
  • Agreed. I don't see any reason why they should be locked behind an expansion. I don't really care that it was in earlier games at no extra charge, but it just makes sense for changing tables to be in the base game.

The CC ones work with just the base game, so technically they are not locked behind an expansion. I downloaded a nursey set that came with a changing table and was surprised it worked. The only thing is they did not come with a diaper trash can, but I'm wondering if I can use any trash can or if it has to be specific to the changing tables.
  • I agree with you @Katofhyrule12 that it's not a needed item and you can play without one. For me it is more of a core item and if my Sims can afford it I'd for sure like them to have one.

The changing table and baby stuff is deeper than it first seems. The items that parents buy define the type of parent they are. Parents have an instinct to prepare a nest. It is one of our most primal urges. To not have access to a changing table or to choose not to have one says something significant about a parent.

Until I started writing a post for this thread, I did not fully understand how important the changing table is to the Sims. We need hearing aids and we need birth marks and yes, we do need basegame changing tables for the sim parents that would never never NEVER bring a baby home to a nursery without a changing table. I didn't realize that until this thread. I get it now. Maybe the gamemakers didn't fully understand that either. Maybe they need to be approached in a way that they can understand.
