Brooms are proof we should have cars

The boats from Island Paradise too. It's not like the game doesn't have transportation. I have noticed the debug cars are starting to look better than from when I bought the Sims 4 back in 2015. I do hope the cars pull out of the drive way and off the district when clicking on the car and then if Sims still want the shortcut way, they can still use the cellphone method. I would really love Sims to be able to travel on that streetcar and steamboat too from the base game. Hopefully with brooms can get bikes and motorcycles and skateboards and paddle/surfboards too. I really loved the helicopters in the Sims 2. I think brooms prove the possibility of horses as doable too. Already have the riding animation for it with the brooms for horses.

I really miss the helicopter. And the limousine. Seeing my sim go off to work in those was half the fun of getting promotions lol now they just get clothes and reward objects big woop. And they make more money crafting stuff or with royalties on other stuff so the money isnt even that big of a deal especially higher up when they only go to work twice a week lol

Yeah the broom riding animations could easily be recycled for horse riding. I never even rode them around the world that much i just liked having them around and riding them around the farm. If I travelled around the TS3 world it was usually in a car

This is how I want cars to be also. I want to be able to back them out of the driveway and pull them in... Sims 2 style. Or leave them parked in front of the lot. Considering how the roads are built very differently in each world with many areas blocked to traffic and some with no road at all I think that is the best possibility... and if you chose to put a driveway your lot in an area that doesn't make sense in the game .. well then don't do it if it bothers you.
I want a variety of working cars to suit the sim and their home. To have driveway eye-candy. I also want sims to be able to build or upgrade cars as a hobby. I'd like a possibility of making an auto repair shop... with gadgets and coverall type of uniforms for the workers or hobbiests.
Someone brought up in some thread that it would be nice to have a drive through or drive-in type of establishment (fast food.. maybe movies). I'd love that as another thing to go do on my sims and more settings for stories.
I'd also love it if the driveway/road we put on a lot could be extended so they would drive further up on the lot (or maybe better yet .... they don't need an actual driveway at all... they could just drive all over the yard hehe..).

I would say poofing is proof that we should have cars its a horrible lazy feature and sad that a game made in 2000 had such a basic but important game feature like cars but Sims 4 which tries to force modern on everything does not. I have not really looked into how the brooms work but if its doing what cars did in the past that's sad they could do this for supernatural players while ignoring players like me looking for realism in Sims using cars instead of poofing everywhere.

what is the appeal of cars for a closed world? you will only be able to see your sims drive to your neighbor's house. Doesn't seem very exciting. It's not like Sims 3 where you can see your sim drive from one side of the world to their home.

I'm honestly just curious, not being snippy. The whole concept of wanting cars in the Sims 4 has been lost on me from the very beginning.

I got quite excited when I saw we were getting brooms but then I discovered they don't go anywhere so what's the point? And cars would be the same.

I wouldn't say it's a "do or die" thing for me, but I definitely can see the appeal in seeing your Sim - instead of wandering off to the edge of the lot and implying that they walk everywhere -- walk over to the nearest road, getting into a car and then driving off. It's more immersive in places like Del Sol Valley, all the base game worlds, two of Windenburg's areas, Strangerville, etc to have that possibility instead of walking. I'd love it added as an option, whether it'd be carpool or owning cars or taxis or a semi-functional public transport service.

So to me, it's about immersion in the world (and not having to wait for Sims to walk/jog for ages until they get to the edge of the neighbourhood).

Actually, they do - it's similar to the teleportation skill you get from the wellness pack. The Glimmerstone has to recharge, so you can't always use it to get to the Magic Realm, but if you send your Sims outside, you can tell them to go there by broom. It's also useful for moving around within the neighbourhood - it takes only a few seconds to fly to a fishing site or to hop around while searching for frogs and rocks. Much faster than waiting for your Sim to walk there.

I agree about the cars, though. Never saw any reason for them in a closed world. (I never used them in S3, anyway - my Sims had bicycles. I use my real-life car as little as possible, and I'm absolutely certain that the Nimbus II Magic Mop is 100% emissions-free.)

For me personally I never liked the Sims 3 version of traveling much - i actually prefer the Sims 2 way of doing it. I was bored out of my skull watching the Sims 3 cars drive across the town - I would have loved to 'jump head' any way I could, because it was just annoying to me to watch the sims drive the whole way.

What I did enjoy about traveling in Sims 2 was the realistic animations, and the immersion the cars brought. I don't need to see the entire trip, just the essential parts. However, there needs to be proper animations - no poofing. The poofing in Sims 4 drives me up the wall. Gimme better animations that really sells the immersion, and I'm fine with anything tbh.

I've never understood the closed world argument against cars - it's NOT about seeing the entire trip - it's about the immersion that having a workable car gives you, and the things you can do with it. Sims 2 cars had A LOT working for it - you could sit in it and listen to music, install car alarm (for that pesky burglar), and woohoo in it - and sell the car in a store if you had a business, so sims could be car salesmen. Not to mention the fact that you could go to work in a vehicle and not 'poof' in and out of existence when you go to work. Having sims use their limousine or helicopter to work when they were rich was such a treat. And it had proper animations attached to all the things you could do with it.
Also I would love to have something to spend simoleons on when my sims get rich, there are too little expensive stuff, and cars would really help.

Brooms are a disappointment to me in the Sims 4. All they do is teleport your sims around and I imagine cars will be equally disappointing if they work the same way.
