Building a workplace

I am currently building a work place/office for my sims to go to when they 'work from home'. The idea is to kind of have a feel like an active career because my sims leave their home lot for work tasks.

It is a work in progress so all I have so far is the front.

What items do I have to include to accomodate as many work from home careers as possible?
I haven't played them all so I would like to know if anyone knows what items to include

As far as I know these are careers with a work from home option:

  • style influencer
  • gardener (seasons): flower arranging table, plant pots
  • politican (city living)
  • critic (city living)
  • social media (city living): computer
  • Education (Discover University): study machine
  • Engineering (Discover University):robot workbench
  • Law (Discover University): computer
  • civil designer (eco lifestyle)
  • conservationist (island living): pond to take water samples?
  • military (strangerville): fighting machine
  • Freelancer :

    • writer: computer
    • programmer: computer
    • artist: digital sketch pad, computer
    • fashion photographer (mochino): photo studio with tripod with camera and markers on the floor
    • paranormal investigator (paranormal stuff pack): always goes on location?
    • crafter (eco lyfestyle): recycler and fabricator

Another thing I am wondering about is the lot type. Currently I have it set to arts center because this one comes close to the intention with loads of activities and most importantly this lot type will spawn a bartender. Does anyone else have a suggestion.

Love this thread! I often create a work space on community lot, but I tend to just add a small area in the corner of the lot that is mainly tagged for community lot purposes. And because it makes space limited it will mostly serve just one sim's home business.

I'd add Knitters to OP's list. I know it's mainly a hobby activity, but it would be fun equipping a room a tad more professionally. I also have working offices for several pretended careers, like ie the Curator at the Museum, mostly just an office with meeting room facilities. I also have community lot working space for a few Janitors.

Thanks for the suggest. I didn't think of knitting because it doesn't have a career. Unfortunately I just finished furnishing the entire build. I don't know where to add it to do the theme justice. I think I will create or edit a community centre for a proper knitting studio. Or maybe as a side room to a clothing store.
I also like the idea of a curator at the museum. I think I will edit my museum in tartosa to include an office with archeology table. The museum is filled with artefacts collected in selvadora so it seems a fitting location.

For knitting, I once built a hobby type shop in my game that was supposed to sell wool, knitting baskets and knitted toys and I added a big round table and chairs so sims could sit and knit in the shop if they wanted and maybe even make it the location of some knitting club but then I found out that knitting is not a club activity and changed my mind and built a restaurant instead.

In San Myshunu I have build an attorney office under the lounge. Just in case the sim needs a lawyer for the divorce. Just kidding :D

Seriously, it was nice to play through the ranks of the lawyer career on this place and visualize them. Starting low profile, then the first cubicle to the edge office through the big boss office at the end. The skyscraper was perfect for such kind of gameplay and profession.

There is a knitting activity for clubs. it is under Art and Music not the hobbies category.
Unfortunately the other club members did not start knitting. :(
There is a bug report here (open since August 2020!) and a modder came to the rescue here

Most work from home careers only need a computer.

I have a separate army base for military, which is set up in Strangerville as part of the story there. For photographers, I have a separate Lot which is also for actors, it has pretend 'scenes' with cameras, lots of backgrounds for photo shoots, dressing rooms etc.

ooh, is the army base on the gallery? That would be fun

Great idea! Hope we get an office kit as I like realistic builds. Will need cubicle dividers, modular desks, and lots of office decor such as a water cooler, laser printer, printer stand, file cabinets, file trays, white board, etc.

ooh, put that in the ideas forum!! That would be fun
  • @joRN1414 yes, it is on the gallery. It is just called Military Base and my i.d. is elliebreton
