[Building] Inconsistent staircase railings

Far too many staircase railings are wildly inconsistent with their respective fences. I'm making this thread in an attempt to document some of the issues.

1. Half-level fences don't blend together

Compare the fences on the side of the half-floor with the fences on the adjacent foundation. Notice that the fence segments on the foundations connect together, whereas the fences on the staircase half-level don't.

This is an issue for all staircases, so I will not be listing any more staircases with this issue alone.

2. Taller bottom railing posts

This issue is second only to the half-level issue, occurring in almost all staircases. I understand why this particular issue might be difficult to fix, due to the increased elevation of the stairs (duh), but it's still somewhat annoying to look at.

What's a bit less of a minor issue though...

3. Too small top railing posts

The first one I initially categorized as too large bottom posts, because the ridiculously tiny top posts made me wrongly assume that it was intended for a different fence...

And whenever I tried to use the glass railing with rounded posts, or any of these for that matter, the top railing post always replaces the fence post, and it's always annoying to look at due to the railing post being noticeably smaller than the fence posts.

This is the third most common issue, where the top railing post should be exactly the same size as the fence post, but it's either much, much tinier, or just slightly smaller.

Some other less jarring but still noticeable examples:

4. Too small bottom railing posts

The opposite of the issue with too large bottom railing posts, the bottom posts of this railing are ridiculously small. This is, for once, an unique issue, but possibly one of the most horrible to look at.

5. Inconsistent glass height

As if bent on depriving us of functional glass railings, the other one is inconsistent too, with the railing glass being noticeably lower than the fence glass.

Ultimately, there's only one railing that has no issues and inconsistencies, and that's the Industrial railing.

Look at this beauty. Connecting so perfectly. If only all staircase railings could be like this.
  • @Beardedgeek Thanks! Those are my favorite design style eras too, both architecturally and furniture wise! I really wish we had a way to make true MCM style houses with the slanted ceilings (inside) or peaked ceilings.

There's also the mega railing that doesn't match the fence colourwise. The fence is white, but the railing shows up as grey in game.
  • I personally think it's because the Industrial Railing is "normal scale", as in it actually looks like the appropriate size, scale, and shape of what you'd find in a similar RL fence of this type. All of the other railings are exaggeratedly oversized and clunky because that is TS4's trademark for their yucky low-poly objects.

And because it is less chunky than the other fences, it actually fits within the wall shape size so that it looks like it should.

I don't understand their thinking in design. I'm a featured artist at TSR and I have to adhere to strict EA guidelines of poly count limits per tile .... Each object can be no more than 1200 polygons per tile regardless of what that object is (clutter objects, plants, furniture, lighting, etc). I can assure you that just because something is low poly it does not have to be "oversized".

Here's a comparison pic of an EA rocking chair vs my more modern version of a rocking chair. Both have almost identical poly counts.

And unfortunately, there is currently no easy way for CC Creators to make fences (or stairs) that actually function like the in-game ones do, so we're stuck with what EA gives us.

(As a side not... That rocking chair to the left... I just love that aesthetics. GREAT job. My favorite decades design wise and architectural-wise is the 1920s thru the 1960s.)
