I just learned that 90% of the "traps" in roleplaying games should correctly be named "booby traps", because they harm instead of capturing. Should I keep that in mind next time the party rogue searchs for traps: "Oh, you meant you were searching for booby traps, why didn't you say so before...?"
I'm in camp "it must be atmospheric above all". It's not Etrian Odyssey, but The Sims.
With readily available ambrosia from the gallery the danger of losing a sim is pretty much non-existant, but if the game sells the non-existant threat well enough to create the right mood I'm satisfied. Had lots of photographers and vacationeers take a peak into a maze in WA and turn around in fear even though I, as the player, knew exactly how to navigate that particular maze with little to no adventuring gear.
