...And this is where the two camps setup: one camp who is all, "I want more death and danger with my Sims! EA please add more spice and depth to this game!" and the other camp that is, "Oh please no more death and danger, I care for my Sims too much to have them be killed by EA!"
This is why The Sims can't please everyone in this community. Someone will always complain and criticize about something. Which camp are you in?
I disagree slightly. I don't want more death per se. I want more unexpected things to happen, less happy happy happy all the time and if in a dangerous setting like a jungle? I expect it live up to what it promises. We will soon see where the dice falls.
There should be more balance in trying to please more than one group of fans.
I think when it came to balance with this pack, I do think it appealed to more then one camp concerning the vacation destination. Selvadorada looks like a nice place that is exotic, where you can meet and be one with the locals, experience their culture, tour the sights and sounds, eat new foods and dances, and generally enjoy the atmosphere of the town bc that is the "safe area" where people who want to vacation there without the jungle can stay there. It is still a vacation world after all.
On the other end, the pack is called "Jungle Adventure" and the Jungle part is a big part of this pack. It was advertised that there will be death and danger and quite a few obstacles in not only the jungle, but also in the temple itself. We don't know much about the jungle yet (and refusing to watch early access reviews of it) but I'm hoping there is a bit more heightened danger with the jungle and the voyage to reach the temple. the Temple itself, while the new concept of the randomized layouts was a great concept to give the temple, I'm not sure it will truly provide enough 'death and danger' that I was so hoping for bc they advertised it so much. Built up so high, and came toppling down.
That's why though, to test how much death and danger there really is in the jungle on the way to the temple and through it, I'll test with two Sims with no skills in anything and no gear to accompany them, and then we'll see how it really is.
See I like this, have areas that are safe and good for those who want a vacation spot and have a spot that people looking for an adventure spot can go to.WA struggled in family play, but this pack has a nice area for the whole family to be safe in an play in. It allows for just a relaxing vacation in a rental if one pleases (people who like vacationing at a resort and relaxing) and adds culture + archaeology for a slightly more active vacation (people who like sightseeing and trying out all the local things)
It also could have added an activity for risk takers and slightly more fantasy style players (not many people go dungeon crawling in real life, but the idea sure seems novel) without making the pack useless to the players that prefer the above choices.Adding a bit more risk would have given the adventuring players something more to chew on with the pack and wouldn't have taken away everything from those who don't want it.
As it is the temples are still dangerous, blatant in your face dangerous but dangerous non the less. So story wise for those who want a family spot, would one really say their responsible loving parents are bringing their teens and children into a unexplored temple that spews toxic gas or electricity or whatever? I don't know what others would do, but I couldn't think of my sim parents as overly responsible bringing their kids into the current temples. So that means temples are more of for the adventuring type not the play it safe group, so why not add some more risk for that group since they obviously are ok with added risk?
Besides it all ts3 traps didn't really kill you and were still good for adding risk. In ts3 if you walked into a water trap your sim just got wet. Electrical traps scorched you the first time but didn't kill you, you were only at risk if you walked into them again, but scorched would go away with a shower in a can or (I think) a swim in a dive pool. Fire traps could scorch or light your sim on fire, again a shower in a can or a dive pool (majority of fire traps were near one) would save your sim.
We could have traps that aren't a death risk in ts4 , or are only if the player is trying to make them so. That's mostly what I want and what I interpreted from the OP, it isn't the death that is important, it is the surprise and the need for the player to pay attention.
