If you mean "enthuse about fruitcake", does that mean your sim already likes the fruitcake? If you swap "likes" and "hates" above, you can make a sim hate fruitcake instead. (And I never saw "enthuse about fruitcake" interaction on those sims). Hope that can help at least one of those annoyances.
