Can’t get perfect bizarre fruit. By design or a bug?

I finally used the shift-click cheat to get my plant to blossom, but the fruit is, as the OP experienced, 'normal' quality, even though the plant is 'perfect'. My Sims are currently living in a temporary camp in Strangerville. I planted a perfect growfruit, so I'm hoping that I can get a splice to graft to the bizarre fruit and get my perfect produce.

(I also have the option to 'nurture' my bizarre fruit plant - what does this do? Should my Sim be wearing a hazmat suit when dealing with this plant?)
