Can anyone help me get rid of this giant mailbox?

You might be able to upload your home and sim to your library, then download them into a fresh game. You would lose all your relationships with your townies, but if you don't care about that, it should work. I do not know if it keeps your Sims career.

I did not read all the posts ... Have you tried to message a Guru about this? They may how to get rid of it.

Thats a cheat for free houses for sims, not to edit community lots with. And I think its freerealestate on, at least thats what I use.

pretty sure i've been able to delete it with bb.moveobjects.

What about setting it as head again and going back onto the lot to remove it?

I only did this once on accident just like you did but the mailbox was on the lot and I deleted in build mode.
I am afraid to set as head on purpose.

One post mentions a mod that can be used. I won’t post that link as I’m not sure if it’s appropriate to post mod links. However, it’s from Mod The Sims called “ enable advanced debug/cheat interactions”.

Note it’s an outdated mod, so if you try to use it, read the last couple pages of the comment section first. Although it still works as is for some, others have had to change it slightly to work with the current patches. Some say it’s because of GTW or conflict with other mods, or perhaps “testingcheats true”.

In any case, no matter which solution you may try, be sure to backup your game first before trying any of it just in case something goes wrong.

I was looking at all this trying to find a solution to my mailbox bug (can’t received mail, except bills) but was surprised to find this thread still currently listed so I just added some of what I had found during my hunt. Obviously, I didn’t read every post, as some of these threads just list so many ‘New’ because I’ve read it before. I can’t always remember what was posted earlier, but also didn’t realize the OP wasn’t responding anymore. I think I probably may need to go back and read all the posts on a thread I am responding to before I post. Good practice. Thank you for noting it.

What mailbox are you using?

My current Sim is an alien and I gave her the alien mailbox. I have sent at least 25 things to the geocouncil and she hasn't gotten a single element back. I was beginning to think that the box was bugged but didn't want to exit the game just yet. Her inventory got bugged so I had to do a repair of the game to fix that. Went back into the game and suddenly she had a postcard (wasn't getting any of those either). Hopefully, repair game fixed it.

I think there is somethng wrong with that future mailbox.

Point being, I also have a mailbox that appears to be broken.

I don't get anything back from the geo council either, doesn't matter which mailbox I use. I get bills norally though.

I could have sworn that the last time I played (back in September) that they used to mail back elements. Am I remembering wrong? Because if they don't send anything back then what is the point in sending things to them? You just lose the money you could have gotten from selling it.

No you're right, you're supposed to get elements back but right now you just lose whatever you send to them lol.
