Can infants be played as active sims?

Do anyone know whether infants can be played actively and directed directly by us? Are they helpless like the baby, or a household member like the toddler? Do they act based on our indirect actions, like baby, cats and dogs? Can we direct an infant to kick a parent's leg, ot is this action restricted to a response we can not control? Can we direct an infant to "crawl here", or must a grown up walk over, pick it up and "walk here"?

  • I would be very surprised if you couldn't control them like the toddler stage upwards. I wouldn't mind too much if they were like Cats and Dogs, as it's still an improvement on the bassinet babies, but I would much prefer it if you could direct them.

Let them be NOT controllabled, they're babies!

You know what, if they ARE controllable, we might be able to institute their crawling to a certain place, to pull themselves to their feet holding onto a chair or couch, or ottoman, the way babies do. Otherwise, what is the point of making them a life stage?
  • I'll be happy if they are, even if you can just do some basic stuff with them, like slow-crawling (faster and faster as the crawling skill increases) to a location, and yes, seeing their needs would be priority number one.

Heck, I'd want the same things for a possible cats and dogs refresh, at least so I can direct my dog to *NOT* do his business just outside the front door. I'm my story's creator. Make it a turn on/turn off feature if you must, but give me control!
  • I think their options will be rather limited, not rreally sure what an infant could do? "Watch tv channel ..."? Nope. "Turn on stereo"? No. "Make a mess"? Nope, not even that. They can probably "watch thing" to build some understanding of their surroundings. And maybe some toys can have multiple options, liuke "pull" or "drag" or "smash". I hope they can also initiate some interaction with household members incl. pets.
Most of all I hope an infant's actions, being iniitiated or directed, will have some affect on their future personality. A cared for infant MUST be different from an infant NEGLECTED, right?
  • I think infants will be able to play, crawl and vocalise, but probably not much else.
  • If some form of "go here" is not possible I will feel deeply betrayed by the sunglasses-wearing scooting on knees at the end of the trailer.

    I really hope so
it'd be real pain to take care of one if I can't even see their needs
and direct their actions to work around possible glitches and bugs
I already age the existing babes immediately because of that
    can't with the guessing games

also dislike how game deletes the babies/toddlers/children being taken away for neglect
why can't they just become ghost like every other sim or at least be adoptable by another sim household
or make their own household instead of disappearing into nothingness dang it

    too much responsibility
    i'll just raise dragons

Yeah, I’d like to see an update where they could become adoptable too….
  • To all the people saying that infants (and cats and dogs) should not be controllable because they are not fully controllable in real life, let me just point out that in my experience, neither are children in real life... or for that matter, fully grown adults. :D

Trust me, if I could queue up a full menu of actions for my whole family in real life, there are times when I would, but that's why TS4 is a simulation, not the real thing!
