Okay so I don't know what's going on. I made a Sim and his Brother. One Sim had 2 kids and a wife, and now their relationships are all screwed up. I can't make my Sim the uncle to the children, only Brother, one of my kids has their Father listed as their brother. My Sim Uncle has his nieces and nephews listed as Roommates. WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON HERE! I love the game so far but holy crap that's annoying. Also when you get married her last name does not change. I hope these are all things fixed in the next update. Anyone else having this or similar problems?

Have you tried:1. Ctrl+Shift+C to bring up the cheat menu.2. Type "testingcheats true" and hit enter.3. Type "cas.fulleditmode" and hit enter.4. Shift+Click your Sim and choose edit in CAS.This can edit sims fully, including names. I imagine EA has a fix on the way for the marriage names thing, but in the meantime this workaround fixed it for me and my simmies. :3

I certainly did! I enter that code, go into CAS, and can edit literally everything else, BUT their relationships. It gives me the "cannot edit pre-existing relationships" every time and the option next to the sim you wanna alter is greyed out.

There doesn't seem to be a way to edit certain things as of now.Frankly it's ridiculous that they overlooked changing names after marriage. It's incredibly basic, and it shouldn't take more than a few lines of code.

My thoughts exactly. I love the things they did add, and the changes they made, but the name change and the fact that you can't fix the relationships bother me. But I'm optimistic, if it's something I can't fix within the game right now, I assume it'll be in the next update.

Hopefully the name changing and relationships are fixed in the next patch

This is a problem again since patio (Or Newcrest patch) for me, suddenly I can't add new relatives such as parents to an existing household or one from my gallery. :(

Cat, why do you care so much about necro threads? I don't get it. Obviously, this is still a relevant issue to some people and continuing and old thread can bring info to others with the same problem. But every time you pop in and just say 'necro'. It isn't helpful at all.

Yes, but at least in TS3, you could click on City Hall and change your Sims' name.

relationships are completely screwed up in TS4.
my sim had a daughter and then her husband died so
she got remarried and her new husband is not listed as
step-father just neighbor.

and she also has 6 kids. 2 of them are off and married with their own children,
the siblings don't come up as aunts and uncles only neighbors.

i hope they fix this soon!!

ESPECIALLY this,
if your sim dies, and then gets culled, forget any relationships you had,
they ALL UN-TIE. so siblings are no longer even related.

I've tried that and I have tried the cheat to add relationships and none of them work. My main sims has 3 siblings and her parents died. Her mom became a ghost and her dad completely disappeared. He doesn't even show up on the geneology tree. Her mom is still on it but her siblings are step siblings now. I brought her mom back to life to try and put dad back in the picture but it won't let me add him as the father to her or any of the siblings. I don't know what to do and i'm really becoming aggravated.

I had this same problem and couldn't get it with the cheats I was using, but I used this one instead and it worked perfectly, thank you!

So I could only edit certain preexisting relationships, but not all. One of the issues is that the game will not edit relationships of people you move into the same house together, unless they are aged up to be at young adult or higher. That will fix at least one instance of the "cannot edit preexisting sims" problems.
