Can't fish in new ponds. Is this a bug?

I have built multiple ponds and stocked them with fish, but my go fishing option is still grayed out and the notice says "sims can only fish here once this pond has been stocked with fish. Place a fishing allowed sign and use it to add fish." I have already done that. And I have adjusted the pond depth to make it really deep for fish. Still nothing. Is this a bug? If so I really hope it's being fixed because my pond is solely decorative right now and it's very annoying.

  • You probably already did this, but I'm asking anyway: did you actually ADD the fish when clicking on the sign? That was a mistake I did myself on my first pond. I just clicked the sign to manage fish, but didn't actually click the fish to add them to the pond.

@GalacticGal did you get your question answered? It's under water features, water objects. The name is fishing allowed sign.

And where are we to find this little fishing sign? I've yet to come across it in build/buy mode. Please, and thank you, in advance.

I think you click on the log in build buy, next to the pond tool. I get confused about where to click for what sometimes myself.

You'll find the new fishing sign in the pond tools section in build mode.

There's actually two new fishing signs to choose from: one is the regular sign (where you have to stock the fish yourself), and the other is a pre-stocked fishing sign (meaning it will automatically stock your pond with fish rather than you having to add them manually). But I have no idea what kind of fish the pre-stocked sign stocks your pond with because I haven't tried that one out yet.
  • Ugh, it was such a pain getting this to work. After doing some research, I moved the sign to a deeper part of the water, but turned it so the writing was facing shallower water. I smoothed the terrain so the slope would be very subtle from land to water, and made sure this shallow area was in front of the side of the sign with writing. But I made sure there was also deep water for the sign. I also increased the size of the pond. After doing all that, and of course stocking the pond, it finally worked. Hopefully this makes sense and is helpful to someone.

You’re very welcome. I hope it works for you!

  • I have a video on my youtube channel. Simeralla_ Creations about ponds and fishing in them and how to get it all working. I cant post link sorry they say it's against rules
  • I have clicked the sign and selected fish to stock the pond. The option to go fishing is still gray and it tells me I have to stock the pond first, even though I have already. Either this is a bug or something about my pond or sign placement is wrong, like a few have mentioned. I guess I'll keep fiddling with it. Thanks everyone!
  • Update:
Problem fixed!! Thank you Rouensims! Your advice helped a lot.
Just so everyone knows, the edges of your pond need to be smooth and the fishing sign needs to be posted in deep water for fishing to work.
