Can't Place Sprinklers Indoors?

I'm loving the Seasons EP so far, but I discovered recently after creating a greenhouse there seems to be a hard placement-limit on the new sprinklers added to the game, because it won't let me place them inside the building. Even after using moveobjects cheat it still won't let me place it because supposedly sprinklers "must be outside."

Honestly I think that's ridiculous...and its silly that move objects isn't working for it either. In Sims 2 and I believe sims 3 as well you were able to place them indoors. There's no reason why it can't be like that in this version as well.

Anyone else bothered by this?

I call bull. We shouldn't have to remove any walls or use cheats if the sprinklers where designed for indoors. So EA needs to get on the ball and design indoor sprinklers. Also a compost maker would be nice.

They weren't designed for indoors. They were designed for outdoors for kids to play in. The fact that they can also water plants is the extra, not the other way around.

I get your point, but it doesn't matter. Like I said time and time again in the previous games you were able to place them indoors AND sims could play with them outside. It wouldn't kill them to allow us to just place the thing inside since obviously gardening is big in this EP so there will be people who would want to make greenhouses and take advantage of them. There's no reason why an outside garden should have the advantage of sprinklers while an indoor one can't. To make a sprinkler ONLY for kids to play outside with is silly anyway. You know sprinklers were originally made to water lawns and stuff right? So logically it wouldn't make sense anyway. But I guess EA doesn't like basic logic.

And about removing the wall, I already explained why I can't use that method. Like I said, I built my lot with foundations. And saying 'its not that hard to do' is inconsiderate to other players that actually do find it difficult for reasons like mine. It shouldn't be a hassle, it should be simple by allowing us to just place the sprinklers indoors.

Does deleting the floor tiles around the sprinkler so that it's on the lot grass help at all? Like, where ever its area of effect is just delete the tiles there? Perhaps you could make a cute indoor display area with the sprinkler and flowers and such

Oh like I said in an earlier post I don't have floor tiles in mine (: (I'm not using planters) instead I just used the ground and placed terrain dirt for the most natural looking greenhouse I could create. I'm sure there are greenhouses that exist that have flooring, but I'm not used to those kinds. I'll add a picture at the bottom for reference since the visual would make more sense.

But yeah even if you don't have flooring it still won't let you place it. What it is is that if its a fully completed room you're not allow to place it. It'll tell you "must be outside." So dumb :(

Ahh, I see. If that's the case then wouldn't simply removing any sort of room roofing let you place the sprinkler indoors? If that works, you could probably just turn MOO and replace the roof. Or you have to place the sprinkler FIRST?

You'd think, since we got a gardening overhaul and glass roofs, obviously with greenhouses in mind, they'd make sprinklers placeable indoors! XD I mean, commercial buildings irl have them for fires so why not!

Yeah someone else in the thread said removing the roof method worked for them, but I don't feel like going through the hassle. I agree with you though. It makes more sense to allow us to place the sprinklers indoors!

Did not read all the replies, but first thought: can it not be placed indoor with the bb.moveobjects cheat?

In my starting post I had said move objects cheat does not work =p
  • There is a big difference between sprinklers made for green houses - seeing green house sprinklers are usually overhead ceiling misters, yard sprinklers, and play sprinklers. I actually have never heard of someone using a playtime water prinkler for plants or inside even a green house as technically they would over water and damage plants in real life if they were made for water fun - they hit people with far too much force that most green house plants could take and with way too much water. Inside systems are supposed to be just brief mist like sputters that are on timers set to just briefly water the plants lightly. Even grass sprinklers use too much force and too much water for green house plants and flowers.

It's so easy to water green house plants now with the update - why would you even want a sprinkler. You would in real life end up with a serious mold and bacteria issue and plants would never grow properly.

But regardless - those are definitely not garden sprinklers - they are play sprinklers for family fun OUTDOORs.

You do know you can use them for your outdoor garden in the game and they water your plants just fine right? Let me remind you that this is just a game - not reality.

The problem is that you can't place them indoors. It wouldn't have been hard for them to let us use them indoors since it wouldn't be harming anything. I was saying it was more realistic to let us use the sprinklers indoor because greenhouses use sprinklers in real life too. And like I said, in the previous games you were able to use the sprinkler for both watering your plants indoors/outdoors AND playing with them. I never said anything about using yard sprinklers for greenhouses and vice versa, I stated that sprinklers were made for lawns and watering plants as well. They don't have to get hyper realistic and create separate sprinklers - one for outdoor playing, one for lawns, and one for greenhouses. All they had to do is let that one sprinkler be placed indoors.

And some people don't care about how easy it is. Some people just like to have their plants watered so that they can use those spare seconds for other things in the game - like me. In my opinion you're just justifying one of EA's poor choices.
  • I tried a bunch of stuff and ended up creating a 'shell' greenhouse (floor dropped out in an inner area), placed my plants directly into the ground, then deleted a panel of the wall (this does not delete the roof, and is only temporary, but allows it to not be 'inside'/enclosed anymore), add the sprinklers, re-add the wall panel (so it is a closed building again), and the sprinkler function. In my Origin gallery I have this greenhouse if you want it - whole ("Botanist Earth Greenhouse") just the 'shell' ("Backyard Greenhouse Shell") that you add plants and sprinklers to ("Plants for Greenhouse"). You will need to upgrade the sprinklers to 'unbreakable' and 'no puddles' or they will break quickly and make puddles that bother the Sims. Have fun with your greenhouse!
  • In real life we used our actual lawn sprinkler for getting wet and playing. I thought that was the norm.
  • I always put mine in and do not close the roof until after upgrading them and they work.
