Can't play the game

All I wanted to do was to move my Sims 4 from a mechanical hard drive over to an SSD. I searched online, and it said it was easy to do. All I had to do was go into my origin settings and change my game library folder over to the drive where I wanted my games to go, I did this. Then it said I had to go into my old Origin Games folder, copy and paste whatever was there over to the new folder, and that was it. I did this. Easy enough. However, of course things don't work out for me the same way it does for other people, and it has to give me problems. I open origin and it tells me my entire sims 4 game is not installed and it wants me to re download everything. This is not happening, I'm not re downloading everything again, so I click on it and click 'locate files' and point it in the direction where the files are installed, and now my origin is crashing. Every time I open origin, it goes to verify the game files for sims 4 and then crashes immediately. What do I do?!?!

  • I've moved 4 most recently to a third different computer in January. I don't know why you're so adverse to redownloading the program files. Even storage transfer cables don't typically transfer program files. If I had to guess without having watched you, you didn't actually move over everything you were supposed to when you chose the long way around.

Everytime I've moved things over, for any game but a few foreign ones that are not detected as program files by a storage cable, I've fresh installed the game files and moved my personal files (saves, library, etc.) in after. I haven't had any problems. Same with 3.

I'd recommend fresh install everything. Clearly something is corrupted or missing. Then move just the personal parts over.
  • When I got my new computer in January, I redownloaded/reinstalled the game and opened it once (to create the new The Sims 4 folder in Documents/Electronic Arts). Then I moved my saves and Tray folders and reinstalled all my mods. That's the best way to do it IMO.

If all else fails, you could try saving your Saves and Tray folders separately (copy to documents folder or somewhere) so you don't lose any saves or sims you've saved to your library. Then uninstall the game and origin, reinstall both, then drop the Saves and Tray back into The Sims 4 folder. Annoyingly time consuming, but will probably work if your saves and tray files aren't corrupted. And apparently I type slow^.
