@VeeDub What kind of dog do you have? I have had mostly cats and so in personal life I prefer them because I know how to care for them. Dogs are really cute though. I always wanted a little one to walk around the neighborhood. Maybe one day I will get one.- VWoodsong3 years agoSeasoned Observer

I don't currently have any, but my favorite of all time (so far) was a Border Collie mix. I generally like medium to large breeds (or mixes made by them), especially if they hail from several of the common shepherd types. And Huskies, too. Of any flavor. <3 - IRL I prefer cats, particularly because I do not like getting up in the morning in the first place and needing to take a furry friend outside to take care of their business would be just one more annoyance in what is, to me, the most annoying part of the day.
But I do love dogs. So, because your question was about in the game, I vote dogs because it is my opportunity to live vicariously through my Sims and have a pet I'm unlikely to ever get irl. - I like both cats and dogs, but I prefer having dogs IRL and in the game. For game reasons, I like the extra management dogs need. They need to be walked almost daily and bathed often. Plus, you can teach dogs tricks with the pet training skill but not cats.
- Cats. Litter boxes. =)
- LatinaBunny3 years agoNew SpectatorI prefer dogs in real life, and I have had two family dogs (cocker spaniel mixes) in my real life, so I usually prefer virtual dogs, if I had to pick a virtual pet.
- mitchiebanjo3 years agoRising RookieI'm allergic to cats irl so having cats in the game is compensation for me. I love both.
- Missmagoo23 years agoNew SpectatorDogs. Grew up with one and basically everyone I knew had a dog. I'm very allergic to animal fur, but I think suffering for a dog is more worth it to me. In the game, I go with no pets.
- Kimmer_one3 years agoRising TravelerI love both equally in game and in real life. I don't mind needy pets that need a lot of attention, it's what I love about them anyway, I'll happily give them their pets and hugs and whatever cuddles my adorable game cats & dogs need. <3
The only reason why I chose cats over dogs is that walking dogs in Sims 4 takes too long and is sometimes impossible to do without full energy. Some neighborhoods in Windenburg are so huge that even a "short walk" makes my Sim collapse and fall asleep in the middle of it. Sometimes they get dirty and refuse to continue walking because they smell so bad (that happens if their hygiene bar isn't full before the walk) and I have to use teleport cheat to get them home. Also... it's annoying that children can't walk the dogs. And why can't one Sim walk more than one dog?
Short walk shouldn't last for 5 hours. After a work day when my Sim needs to do daily tasks spending 5 hours for walking one dog is often too much. This is why I choose cats in Sims 4 more often. My Sims do have both in my saves, but they don't usually have more than one dog. They can easily have several cats, though.
