- VenusARussellSeasoned NewcomerI love both but cats are easier. Dogs need bigger lots to train them. I do add dogs to families if I am up for it though. <3
- DoloresGreySeasoned NewcomerI like to train them. Though the fact that puppies can't be potty trained on that newspapers rug is pretty disappointing.
- ladybreidNew Spectatorso rl i have ferrets, house bunbuns, rats and a dog so I picked dog but I think cats in ts4 are easier to care for.
- SheriSimSeasoned HotshotI like them both, it depends on the individual, or family. Also, I use the animals from my first pet too, and also frogs, insects, and fish, depending on the sim. With cottage living you can even have additional pets. I plan on giving one family chickens and wild bunnies as pets. I’d love to see a small pet pack, mice, tarantula, bird ( in cage ), lizard, things like that. And I would like the tie in my first pet has to homework, and parenthood ( responsibility ).

100% IRL i feed neighbourhood cats around my house when they come to my window cause i live in a basement apt. !
In game i like having a playful cat with a fun loving or cheerful sim, they require little direction to interact in fun ways. I just started playing dogs recently, i like them also but im definetly at 99% cat, and im wondering about the tricks (w dogs), is it worth it whats the final level of dog tricks ? But ive already learned quite a bit reading here so thanks for sharing and ciao4now
Your Sims can earn money by performing tricks with dogs. People will watch the tricks and tip your Sim!- Sara1010pRising RookieIRL I am 100% a cat person, we have five of them. But for some reason in game, I prefer the dogs. I just like the way the game does them more.
- EmmaVaneSeasoned VeteranDogs. I feel like they are more social, whereas cats are more independent. Dogs also have more interactions such as walks, adventures, learning tricks and obstacles etc. They do need more care, and (depending on traits) more exercise, but there are ways to mitigate this in game.
- Exercise: If you have a pool, dogs will autonomously go swimming. If they are swimming, they will need walking less often.
- Housebreaking: Once your dog is housebroken they will ask to go out by whining at the door. Adding a doggy door saves your sim having to let them in and out.
- Pet Poop: Can be used as fertiliser, or cleaned up with robot vacuums (might require an upgrade). Can be profitable with certain illnesses (gold poop and gold bars worth good money).
- Exercise: If you have a pool, dogs will autonomously go swimming. If they are swimming, they will need walking less often.
- I agree with what @VeeDub said. I prefer dogs any day in real life so it just makes sense for me that I would have a dog in the game (which I do).

TY @EmmaVane & @NightlyCoffee thats great advice ! I was about to give up the pool in the Chateau Frisé, im gonna keep it now
One of my favorite things dogs do is swim with Sims. When my families throw pool parties, I love that the dogs will join in. They'll autonomously swim or you could direct them with the "Swim With..." interaction. If the world has swimmable lakes and rivers, dogs can swim there, too.
But dogs can have a fear of swimming. I had one dog that was absolutely terrified of swimming and would panic every time they got near a pool. :(
I also really love in Mt. Komorebi that dogs can go on the hiking trail with Sims.- I had no idea that the dogs could swim. Do they swim in the ocean at Sulani too? I'll have to take a dog to the beach and find out. It would be nice if they dug for treasure in the sand too
