Chestnut Ridge is not in the American Southwest
It gets cold and snows. So where is this supposed to be, more like the plains? Colorado?

I don't have the pack yet but it certainly looks like Arches National Park in Utah - which does get snow as far as I know. (and isn't in the southeast)
