Chestnut Ridge is not in the American Southwest
It gets cold and snows. So where is this supposed to be, more like the plains? Colorado?

I think Chestnut Ridge is very similar to the Colorado/Montana areas, and it does snow in both states. The closer you are to the mountain ranges the more snow you can get.
