Chickens and Thunderstorms

Now that I have Cottage Living I wondered... does having a chicken coop outside during thunderstorms cause any problems? Can the coop and chicken be struck by lightning?

Please share your experience, I would like to know if the chickens are safe outside during thunderstorms. :)

    Well chickens can get scared during thunderstorms and scatter. This can lead to lost chickens. It is possible for real chickens to be hit by lightning same for the coop.
