clearing the Origin cache
I know there are several threads about the download issue already, but I wanted to make sure anyone who is still having problems wouldn't miss this, and I also think, sadly, we are likely to have to troubleshoot for ourselves with future packs, too. So this may have more general use in the future.
I was trying to find solutions, and nothing suggested here on the forum was working for me, so I looked around more broadly, and found several suggestions to "clear the Origin cache" but no explanation of what that actually means. I assume most of you, like me, do not work in IT. But after a bit more googling, I found this EA link:
https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
It was a pain in the ass, but once my computer rebooted and I logged back in to Origin, when I checked my Sims 4 status it told me that Cottage Living had been downloaded. At least in my test save, the world looks ok.
Prior to that, I had already tried logging in and out of Origins many times, closing all background processes with task manager, opening and closing the game a few times, and even restarting the computer a couple of times. EA Help was... no help at all. Nothing worked until I cleared the Origin cache. So my hope is that sharing this link will spare someone else some of the frustration that I've been through today.
Good luck, friends. I'm not sure I even want to play this expansion anymore, at least today, but at least it will be there whenever I do.
