Clipping vs Routing Issues

Might as well have them walk through the walls then. Routing issues solved.

I won't mind the clipping as long as it isn't drastic, and the routing is improved as a result. Clipping of some form happens in most games.

There are already two threads going with the various opinions. I'll summarize them all. Some people care about the clipping a lot, some people care about the clipping just a little, the rest don't care about the clipping.

For me no, it's totally unacceptable and here is why, my Sims in TS2 don't go through counters or walk through each other when trying to pass, and if this is somebody's idea of better routing then I have news, No, TS2 Sims don't have that many routing failures unless I block them with objects on purpose. So, No, it's lame.

Yes, but not intentionally to improve something. This is usually the result of a glitch or bug in most games.

I don't mind a bit of clipping. Most games have at least some issues in that regard. As long as it's not too noticeable, only takes a quick sec and doesn't happen all the time, I'm fine with it.
If that's what it takes to stop the annoying 'wow there is a newspaper in the way HOW WILL I EVER GET THROUGH THE DOOR NOW' phenomenon then I'm 100% okay with it.

I pretty much expect some clipping in any 3D game. It usually doesn't bother me and I barely notice it. However, if it happens repeatedly over a short amount of time and it's very bad it starts to get to me because I can't focus on the game play if all I see are errors.

I haven't played TS4 yet (obviously), but I've seen a lot of atrocious clipping over short periods of time in the videos. I'm aware that these players say that this was not a final build, though, so... *shrugs* Would I rather have clipping or routing failures? I'd say neither because too much of either is irritating. However, if it's down to bad clipping 6 times in a 10 minute span or 6 routing failures in a 10 minute span, I guess I'd take the clipping.

If clipping is their fix for routing issues, however, that sounds rather uninspired to me.

If it works for The Sims then that's all that matters. We don't know if it's going to be bad in the game or not as we haven't played it yet. Clipping occurs in most games because.... it is what it is, not because of glitches or bugs. Unless it's major I don't see the issue.

The clipping matters to me, but I'm someone who shares pictures here and on tumblr and writes little non-stories for them. That's part of my enjoyment for playing the game. Spending a lot of time paused staring at clipping in TS3 made me have higher hopes for 'smarter sims', 'better routing' etc in TS4 (especially considering all the time they don't seem to be spending on other things....).
Other than doorways (I'm looking at you, University!!), I've been incredibly lucky and never had a lot of issues with sims standing around waving their arms (I do often get sims standing around for an hour changing into another outfit though *sigh*). Going through each other isn't an improvement, at least not to me. My fingers are crossed that things will be better in the version we'll actually be playing but.... I have played TS3 so I won't be holding my breath. :P

I just can't fathom why this is o.k. to some. So, what you are saying is the TS4 team is not smart enough or techy enough to make a game without all this clipping and also not have routing problems, though they have been bragging this AI is the most amazing thing (engine) they have ever built? Is that it? This? Hold on I'm calling Barnum and Bailey because there really is one born every minute.
