Yes.. the clones look like the sim and have the same traits usually but no skills, sometimes you get an evil clone though and I guess that's like getting a failed cloned object (but more fun). I use it to make more crystals/metals to build things or potions much like @sineea mentioned. I had to grin that you even use the buffet table to set them out I do that too with food that doesn't spoil and often put potions on them.
