Colour Palette For a Young Sim Couple

If I get stuck with design elements like this, often a quick image search will generate some ideas. I did a search for "young couple interior colours style" and there were quite a few nice designs to see. I found some of them pretty bland though - they seem to like a lot of white and light timber frames. IKEA has a lot to answer for.
Different coloured feature walls can look good though. Something bold that adds a point of interest to the room. Coloured lighting.

My first thought on seeing your screenshot up above though, was to have a sort of rich yellow where you've got the pale blue walls. It'd tie in with the curtains and the cane blinds beside the fireplace.
But hey, that's just me. There's no accounting for taste, and what clicks for you might look like a dog's breakfast to someone else.

When choosing a color palette for my sims, I just use their favorite colors. It may just be me but I like my rooms to have a cohesive theme throughout the house, with the exception of the kids' bedrooms.

I start with the rug for the living room. This sets the palette and style for the rest of the house. I usually pick a color from the rug I've chosen for the wall color, assuming there is a wall covering that matches, and go from there. Then, I choose a neutral color as the accents.

I'd go for a deeper shade of blue than what's there now. With that room I'd start with the lightest of the three blue shades in the basic darks palette. I agree totally with @StuffyMarx, I'd take one wall and do something different. Off the top of my head you could go with the geometric wallpaper from the Moschino Stuff Pack, if you have it. Lately I've fallen in love with doing a stone accent wall. I feel like the Brooding Brick from Vampires might look good with that blue I'm thinking of. It is a bit difficult because so much of decorating for me is experimentation until I get something that I feel fits.

I am struggling a bit too, because I'm trying to think of base game or at least Maxis content. My normal style is to just go nuts with cc, but that's not always possible for somebody else. Another point, if your sims budget allows, I'd look at changing the furniture also, to have more of a youthful vibe. The first thing my eye is drawn to is the fireplace. It feels out of place to me. It gives off a rustic Italian villa feel. I don't have the fireplaces memorized, but I know there are some more modern looking ones that would help give you the look you're after.

The decor as a whole looks a little mixed and not settled on one aesthetic, but if you're working solely with Maxis items a lot of compromises have to be made. That's probably why it feels that way.

Funnily enough i did have Yellow as my first attempt but it was on every wall and it felt too much Yellow.

Using the yellow suggestion, i've come up with this so far and added a new divider by the kitchen and front door:

I think the wall to wall carpeting is also adding to the dated feel of the house. Modern designs have wood or stone/tile flooring and area carpets. Also, why is your TV hanging precariously on a tiny sideboard in the middle of the room when it could hang beautifully above the fireplace. And you would get to hang out by the fireplace too, otherwise I really don't see the point in having one in the first place. That Laundry day hutch it not very modern looking either, you could achieve a similar look by using the items from Dream home decorator pack. or maybe the open shelves with hanging plants on them, I forgot which pack they came with. Also, the chair legs don't match the wood colour of the table, nor the hutch, and it just screams hand me down furniture. I liked the furniture you had before, was a bit more cohesive looking. For both looks I would recommend some bright and colourful carpets, with geometric design as that is definitely a modern look. Also, a modern gaming chair for the computer desk, instead of the grandpa's reading chair. Maybe you could also put the fireplace where the TV is, but facing the dining area, and the TV on the other side of the wall, facing the living area.

If you want to do yellow, I would go with gray walls, dark wood floors and let the yellow be the accent color (i.e. the rugs, an yellow accent chair, etc.).

It has been suggested via Designers that you have one color that goes through the entire house. This could be the carpeting, or the flooring of one sort or another. To design a home for a young couple, you need to know something about them, their taste and style to begin with. @SweetieWright_84 has the correct idea. Start with their favorite colors. I was a young woman when my hubby and I bought our first house. It was an old California Bungalow, built in 1913. Lots of deep base boards, gingerbread on the doorframes. Wainscoting in the dining room with a built-in hutch, plate rails atop the wainscoting which was 3/4 of the wall high. My dream home. I was all of 28 at the time.

I feel it entirely depends on sims in question and what colors they like

and you seem to have chosen quite lovely one :smile:

but to make youthful home I feel like carpets gotta go anywhere that is not bedroom if you want house to feel more fresh and in with times

personally I would suggest to go with dark wood flooring (the first base game option in catalog) i use this like everywhere to a fault it fits literally every time period house in my mind

or wide plank light wood option from base game if you want to keep the bright and airy color scheme in the house

I guess you could also try reddish floor like basketball floors from city living if you want it to feel like retrofun i feel like reddish floors are also little aging cause they're not common in new houses but they can be fun too

oh and i recall using those wood colored tiles from spa day in some of my blue apartments because its little more colorful but still light

and yes as you may have noticed for walls adding some type of trim goes a long way to making house feel little bit more in with the times

and the youth is more likely to make bold contrasting choices with their houses than the older folk

meanwhile ofcourse not like older folk can't have bold n cool houses but beige basic core is little outdated style as people want to make their spaces more personal and more intentional

basically i just feel like
hard floors > soft floors
wide plank > small plank
big tile > small tile
intentional design > neutral design

is the key to making house feel more youthful in 2022

although if the personal taste is for any of those things ofcourse it shall be embraced

even avocado bathroom can look modern if you do it intentionally

That looks so much better. Well done. @crocobaura’s point about hardwood floors is excellent advice. I rarely use carpet, just area rugs. The colors and styles of furniture are really nice and they spruce up the room.
