Community Lot Ideas

I'm replacing some lots in my game. I need some ideas that can be worked within the current lot types. I am already planning multiple restaurants, a bowling alley, and a movie theatre. What have you done?

  • I have a whole list lol. I wanted to create a small strip mall with a flower shop, ice cream shop and a pet store etc. I haven't tested to see if it will actually be playable but you can try it if you want.

    Other things on my list:

    - antique shop
    - diner
    - bakery
    - community center
    - bridal shop
    - aquarium
    - art gallery
    - photo studio
    - bookstore
  • I've got "Alien Nation" which is my scientist's retail shop where he sells freezerays and satellites. He also has a working wormhole out front for public use.

I built "Lazenby's Learning Center" which is a generic lot that houses all the "BIG" things like the cupcake machine, microscope, Grand Piano, Karaoke, etc. My sims can use it to gain skills there instead of having any of those big things on a home lot.

My bowling alley also has arcade games, dartboards and foosball.

    Others:

-restaurants ranging from outdoor diner to roadhouse to upscale fine dining.
    - a rock-climbing facility that also offers yoga.
    - bookstore
    - art gallery
    - several parks including one that has every harvestable available in perfect condition.

I like a lot of ideas, especially the aquarium (maybe set as museum?), and I love the idea of a community garden of sorts. However I wanted it to be my own lots so that would take forever. They don't need to be in perfect condition but it would be nice. I'm also thinking maybe a high school and then an elementary school as well. The generic lot type would be great, but it can't be set as a club hangout. The only other solution I could think of would be an unowned residential lot set with multiple clubs. (Sports club, artsy club, nerd club, teacher club, etc.) Can you use unowned residential lots as hangouts?
  • Lots of great ideas here. I'm trying to go through my Legacy towns and get rid of ridiculously over-used lot types like cafes, gyms, bars and fill them with out things. So these ideas have been very helpful!
  • In addition to things listed here, I'm curious if anyone has done anything in the San Myshuno district with some of the apartment buildings?
  • I'm currently working on a museum. It's a three storey building with several rooms (downloaded from the gallery). The idea is that my astronaut, adventurer etc. sims can donate their collections to the museum. The museum will display a picture of the donor next to the collection. Each room will have a different theme and I will try to add in some interactive items too, so in the fossil room for example kids could hug a toy dinosaur. I've just started this, but I hope it will be exciting to visit when it's done.
  • I once did an internet café, though it was more of a bar, since we don't really have a café type thing (that I know of).
You could do a toy store a-la Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, where kids can come and play with the toys too. Personally, I think the kids' stuff is so colorful that it's really fun to design playrooms and stuff. Maybe you agree maybe not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There are lots of useless science and technology thingamabobs and decorations in Get to Work. There's also some interesting technology type stuff in debug. It might be fun to make a sort of secret government/alien base sort of thing! Of course, it wouldn't be a hangout, but you could still "break in" and it would certainly fill the lot.
  • I’m working on a Country Club lot for all my fancy pants sims currently. I’ve also been working on a few faith based lots. A Catherdral, a Mosque and a Far East inspired Temple.

I’ve found that my most creative lots are sparked from clubs I create. My It Girl’s club inspired a cafe/clothing store hybrid. My sports teams inspired me to build a school. I have restaurants catered to specific food types and themed accordingly; a Mexican cantina, an Italian pizzeria, a seafood place, a breakfast and burgers style diner, a sushi/Asian fusion place, a vegetarian eatery, a Chuck E. Cheese style kid friendly restaurant, and a black tie upscale restaurant that serves primarily experimental food.

I only keep one gym, one museum, and one library for all the neighborhoods so that they always feel lively and to free up space for other lots.
