It's great that you posted new pictures. The changes that I can see are:
- smaller eyes (mesh change)
- correct eye color
- more detailled skintone (texture change)
- changes of the mouth, less grinning (mesh + texture change)
- some animation + voice change
The body mesh of the newborn remains untouched, only the face has undergone the above light changes.
I do appreciate the changes as the babys have proper genetics now and I found them to be extremely uncanny valley before.
I can understand that some players do miss the cuteness factor as that has not been checked for me either - and I am a large fan of newborns in real life.
I think what they truly lack ist the adoring facial and bodily animations that can be seen with human babys (like their sweetest unconcious smiles and them imitating the facial expressions of adults, grabbing a finger with their hand, hand to face/mouth reactions and such). This is extremely tough to animate though so it could not be expected for a infant refresh.
I'm all in for a non-doll-like execution but I'm a mother of 3 and aunt of 5 so I can deal with the realism they went for. (What I
do miss are some cute sounds for when they're not crying.)
The thing is that a lot of Simmers prefer their Sims more doll-like.
