Complaining about Sims 4.

When you compare it to it's older siblings, the Sims 4 is easy. It's a watered down version of The Sims. And that's the biggest drawback for me with this game. Yes, there are areas for improvement (emotions, traits, memory system, etc.) But gameplay over all is just easy. No consequences to anything.

I think it sort of had to be made easier in a way. The player base has such a huge range of ages from all walks-of-life. I think that someone who is 12 won't necessarily have the same experience as someone who is 60. People with developmental disabilities of different types might find it more difficult than someone who doesn't have the same type of disability.

EA isn't made up of silly people. They are a company. Companies exist to make money and create jobs so that others can make money too. Raising the difficulty too far would potentially alienate a portion of the community who may not be able to do the game if it were more difficult and EA would lose potential customers.

Some will say that's a cop-out but I don't think so. There are ways we, who might want more difficulty, can get that without hurting the people who can't play with more difficulty settings. I use a lot of mods. I cheat money away. I play with both my own rule sets that make it harder for me and with community created rule sets.

I know that not everyone wants to play with mods or cheats but I'm just saying...it is an option. When I want more difficulty, I tend to either boot up an earlier iteration of the game (the original The Sims title was more difficult for me as was The Sims 2) or I play a different game that is geared towards more challenging content all-together.

If you feel you've gotten all you can out of The Sims 4, maybe there is another option for you like an earlier version of The Sims or a new game. Either way, I hope you find the joy you deserve for your free time activities.

@JoAnne65 those legs from sims 3 look greasy and worse imo :D also not all of the legs in sims 3 are muscular either.

Furthermore the texture of the objects is more so what I hate in the sims 3. Furniture and flooring mainly. And buy mode stuff. It all looks bad texture wise.

Okay, I have to say something regarding the Sims 3 vs. Sims 4 push and pull disruption.

The thing about comparing Sims 3 (or 2 or 1) to Sims 4 is that it's sometimes necessary in order to give examples of preferences and criticism. It's common to use previous games in order to show what we loved, what features we want to keep, and what gave us passion for the game. But on the other hand, it's also just as fair to use previous features (or faults as one might see them) as examples of what we don't want carried over or continued. Criticizing a previous iteration is not "throwing it under the bus". Trying to shut people down when they mix Sims 3 criticism in with Sims 4 is like saying, "you may use previous games as examples, but only if it's flattering to that game". In other words, it's a way to control the conversation to suit your own, personal preferences. And it's equally oppressive to try to shut down someone who uses a previous game as a preferred example when trying to voice criticism for Sims 4.

I understand that no one likes to have bad things said about something they love, no matter which game they prefer. But I think that BOTH Sims 3 and Sims 4 players need to learn how to not take it personally when someone does criticize their favored game. Because we are not all going to want the same things, have the same play styles, or share the same preferences. The Sims games have gone through so much metamorphoses that we are going to see a lot of different perspectives here on the forums. All of them should be respected and allowed to be voiced. Policing a thread to keep away from any negative talk of a preferred game and trying to argue against someone's personal preferences is not only futile, it also disrupts a thread.

No I’m not trying to close conversation down at all. Far from it. But this isn’t discussing sims 3. A familiar pattern I see all the time is:

Constructive criticism of sims 4 for example this very topic complaining of sims 4 being too easy.
Response is someone slagging off sims 3 looks. As if that’s got anything to do with it? It’s apples and oranges. What is the relevance? If you are comparing difficulty levels you could argue it’s a valid point. It’s sometimes very difficult to give feedback when it’s disrupted by those types of posts all the time. It then changes the direction of the thread entirely and being honest it feels to me like it’s the only defence of the sims 4 is to do that. Because I see it all the time.

Maybe I've missed something, but it seems to me like the whole discussion about graphics began with someone insulting TS4's graphics in favor of TS3's and not the other way around. Either game's graphics are completely irrelevant to this discussion but you're putting the blame for that derailment on the person who responded to it rather than the person who started it.

Anywho, I completely agree with the OP. It's not necessarily that I want the game to become a challenge in itself to play, but sometimes a little hardship and consequence makes things a bit more fulfilling.

The thing is, when throwing in pictures like this I'm not even fighting my own 'zealous' fight. I loved Sims 3 when playing it on medium settings (pretty poor) and I love it on highest settings, but the looks are not why I play this game. It's also a 2009 game, it's in fact rather telling people are actually using this for an argument. When I play Sims 4 I regret the cartoony style, but if it would be an amazing game I couldn't care less. Sims 3 art style and textues is more my cup of tea, but I'm perfectly fine with Sims 4's different style as well. But fact is, that Sims 3's style is more realistic, its textures more 'noisy' (as a developer once put it), I've even seen people declaring it's too uncanny valley for them.

I see someone on page 2 stating they 'loved the cartoon style graphics in the Sims 2 and love them even more in the Sims 4'. Truth is, Sims 2 in some respects blows Sims 3 out of the water where it comes to realistic and detailed graphics (meals, rocks, grass come to mind). Sims 2 and 3 have the same art style (I often confuse Sims 2 pictures for Sims 3 pictures), Sims 4 went in another direction: everything looking like rubber and plastic. That's a choice and some will prefer that, but why people deny it confuses me.

Whenever the subject is 'Sims 4 has flaws' and people turn up to say how they hate puddingfaces and poor graphics, this in a strange way confirms for me Sims 4 must be even worse than I thought. You must realize you won't convince Sims 2 advocates who criticize Sims 4. They dislike Sims 3 for much more thorough reasons than its looks, reasons I can actuall understand, even when they don't apply to me (complex personalities, a memory system, detail, rotational play). You must realize you also won't convince people who favour Sims 3, because they clearly are perfectly ok with Sims 3 graphics and art style. So that leaves convincing yourself. Why would you want to convince yourself? You already are.

Bottom line: Sims 4's graphics are the best. Well, chapeau, for a game that was released in 2014, well done! It does that better than the 2004 and the 2009 game, impressive. Its art style is cartoony and 'rubber/plastic'. Some love that, others don't. Subjective. And then there's gameplay. I believe that last one is the actual subject of this topic.

I could just as easily say that Sims 3 must be so much worse than I thought, because of your own efforts to make sims 4 seem to be worse than sims 3 :)

As for the reasons why some dislike sims 3, that depends on the player. To me the sims in 3 aren't nearly as charming or believable as in TS4. But no reason I give you will ever stop you from claiming that Sims 4 is much worse than Sims 3. Because you clearly have already made up your mind that that is the right answer. And that is okay. Because it won't ever make Sims 4 any less fun for me.

I play sims 4 every day. I don't need to be convinced on it and neither do you @JoAnne65 .

I think the whole issue with TS4 is that they wanted to reach a younger demographic. I remember when they were ahead of the times in the gaming market by simply embracing things like sexuality and just plain oddities. The lack of these things makes the game feel like a lifeless void, where my only task in game is to mindlessly click on skills until I level my sim's career until I'm wealthy. That's probably why a lot of simmers have done like I have, simply building or working in CAS instead of actually playing the game. Like, we have to find games to play within in the game like challenges and stuff. I hope with TS5 they'll go back to those edgier roots, but I don't think they will. :/
