Considering buying Eco Lifestyle - I have a few questions for players who have it

I'm tempted to buy Eco Lifestyle while it is 60% off right now. I love a lot of the CAS and build items, could use the extra world, and would like to have some of the activities (candle making, recycling, etc.) that are a part of it.

The reason I still have not bought it, even though it has been out for a long time, is that I don't really want to use the eco footprint (pollution system) gameplay or the NAPs much. Maybe in one or two of my saves, but not in most of them.

I've been searching around trying to find info about how easy (or hard) it is to completely turn these systems off, and whether or not they can be disabled on a save by save basis (so I can play with them if I want to but completely turn them off if I don't). But my searches have turned up conflicting answers (some from before the pack came out, so they were probably just people guessing).

So, asking players who have the pack...

1) Pollution - Can you completely disable the eco footprint / pollution system? Does it fully turn it off (like game would be without the pack)? Or are there aspects of it that are still happening (for example, smog) even if it is turned off? Can it be turned off in one save and turned on in another? Does it reset back to "on" if you travel or switch households?

2) NAPs - Can this system be completely turned off? Basically, I have the same set of questions about NAPs as I asked about the pollution system.

3) Bugs, glitches, other issues - Are there any bugs still in this pack that are really problematic?

I feel like at 60% off it's worth getting it for the stuff I want to use, but because of the pollution and NAPs I am still undecided.

No, NAPs can not be completely removed. You can allow only played sims to vote and pick some easy NAPs like having fun, cooking or gardening.

I'm getting confused. If I set it so that NPC sims can't vote, as soon as I install the pack, will I still have to pick a NAP for any neighborhood I am playing in?

No, you can start playing in the world without having to touch NAPS at all.
They CAN be turned off, literally what most of the ppl here have been saying

You wish. If you don't touch NAPs at all, the game might pick one for you. One such option might be "sharing is caring", meaning random sims might steal objects on community or residental lots. You don't want that.
NAPs can be changed at the mail box using a cheat, by the way.

I suggest NAPs like "Foodies Unite", "Fun-Loving Community", "Juiced Community", "Free Love" or "Green Gardening". Have fun.

I don’t got any of that cause I turned them off ?
  • Thanks for all the tips and advice! This discussion has been really helpful to me.

It sounds like as long as I turn off autonomous voting on NAPs immediately after installing the pack, it will be fine. So, I think I will probably buy the pack. Hopefully the sale lasts a few more days because I still need to update my game and mods, which I won't have time for until after Christmas.
  • The Eco pack is my favorite ep. I use the left click on mailbox to bring up a menu that you can pick your own NAPs and repeal those you don't like.

My favorites are, self-sufficiency, support tech and the arts, the water and energy ones (funny when they turn off the power/water for 12 hrs.), and rock your body.

@bshag4lv I’m curious about what happens when they turn off the power for 12 hours ( I’ve never voted in those type of NAPs ). Does all of your food in the fridge spoil? And, can you still use the fridge ( if you don’t have an off the grid fridge )? Do you add ice to non off the grid fridges to keep food from spoiling like you do off the grid fridges?
  • @SheriSim57 As far as I recall, nothing much happens with that other than no power - my sims made food, or took it from the fridge no problem - but I haven't let that NAP be active more than once or twice. My sims require their computers, thank you very much!

Hi Sheri! No food spoilage and the occupants of the house, unless they're a geek, don't really notice. I usually have them read, make potions, practice their magic, or just go to the park to fish, skate, swim. There are any number of things for them to do while there's no electric or water. Now geeks are another story, lol. I had one meltdown because he couldn't use his computer. I just sent him and his laptop to the park.
  • @WildIrishBanshee & @bshag4lv
Thank you both for you answers. I can’t remember if my off the grid sim is a geek or not, I think I might have made him like books instead, as I knew he would be off the grid, he was my frog scenario sim. He has a computer that I keep in his inventory most of the time I think, so he is not always using the power he has saved up.

I do have some geek sims though, I will remember to make sure they don’t get that NAP, especially the one that is also gloomy….. lol.
