Interesting thoughts @EnkiSchmidt. There are a variety of projects going on in the lab. Darin personally has an interest in botany, trying to tend a garden at work. He also uses the results in a number of experimental chemical serums, so there is some chemistry being introduced there.
With your idea in mind I just did a quick google on blue skin pigmentation. Turns out there is an extremely rare genetic condition caused by the blood not being oxygenated. A similar effect can occur with certain drugs, so maybe my Sims could semi-realistically claim exposure...
