Creating a bakery....need a bit of an advice from someone experienced.

I am FINALLY playing with the retails after having removed them all from my current saved game and I decided to create a small bakery in Oasis and for some reason I decided to create it from scratch (house and all! I am insane!) instead of getting it from the library and I like to fix it in a way that there are no owners BUT is still a working bakery with a teller and goods to sell.

Now I have done some research and the best way to do that (the only way I see) is to follow SimGuruGraham's advice from this thread:

1) Build the store.
2) Own the store (so that you can set items as For Sale, which can only be done by the owner).
3) Mark the items in the store that you want it to sell as For Sale, by clicking on them in Live Mode.
4) Sell the store.

When you follow this process you'll now have an unowned store that's fully functional that you can now go shop at. You won't lose any money by buying the store to set it up either; you'll recoup all of those costs when you sell the store.

This has given me great ideas for other kinds of stores/retail but one thing at a time though; the bakery.

Now, I have almost finished building the store and added the necessary items/furnishing, decided on the Sim to use as a temporary owner/baker and even decided on what baked goods to sell but there are some things that I am not clear on that I like to get an advice on.

The first thing is the displays or the containers I use to put the baked goods in to sell. There are three that have been recommended in the bakery guides I have read so far; the frigidaire refrigerated display, the baker's cousin display case and the Lice Cold Freezer. Tower of Treats Display Shelves were also mentioned for customer to taste the goods before buying. Already placed it by the doors.

Now the guides I read recommend either one of the two first: the the frigidaire refrigerated display and the baker's cousin display, but they don't really touch upon which is better or even their differences. What is the difference between these two?

The fridge, the Lice Cold Freezer, is also usable but it doesn't have a restock option which means that my Sim will have to bake goods into it all over again instead of just restocking. With that in mind, if the store has no owners will the fridge restock or become empty within the first few days of buying from the store? Should I just skip using the fridge?

Also, I like to know, if I take that bakery and move it into other saves, will it be still a working bakery where my Sims can come in and buy baking goods or do I have to have a Sim buy it all over again, stock it up and then sell the bakery? I do assume that the gallery allows retail business to keep their function but am I right?

  • Well I can't help you here myself since I too am thinking of making a bakery and would also like to know, but for your last question I've noticed that in the few times I've ever visited retail stores, and between long spans in gaming mind you, in all those times I've not seen any items that were bought restocked again. Bought clothes on mannequins remained unclothed and baked goods in the display cases weren't filling up after emptying. I'd presume that it was never meant to be restocked and the best course of action there is to plop the same store again from your library so all the sold items are back again with the new version.
  • I've tried making a bakery before but have only failed... I need some help too!

    Sorry I couldn't help!

I'm going to be checking in on this post more often to get good information.
