I attempted to do this but quickly discovered I am not great at building from scratch so I make do with either remodeling one of the maxis builds or finding a suitable one from the gallery. I have original builds of my own, but they are not gallery 'worthy'. I didn't get very far in my attempt to recreate the world because shortly after I decided to undertake this project, seasons was announced! Like you, I prefer to remove the premade sims but it is a bit of a hassle having to replace them with each new save. I may have another go a this at a later time.
