Degree length too long

So I bought the Discover University expansion recently, and I have my first sim going to university now. The thing I’m noticing is that the degrees seem to take too long. I started my sim as a young adult, and she’s almost finished her degree at this point but she’s half way to becoming an elder! It just doesn’t seem to give enough time to actually leave university and get a job etc before they become elders, or am I missing something? Should I make the lifespan longer?
  • Buy the Potion of Youth from the rewards store (on the Aspiration panel) for 1500 satisfaction points. Drinking it will reset your Sim's age to the beginning of her current lifestage. You can get the same effect with one of the spellcaster potions if you have Realm of Magic. Be sure to drink it before your Sim ages up.

  • Gosh, I know it took longer in Sims2 & 3. I just never broke it down by their ages. I already plan on resetting my college students (in their birth order) to the beginning of their YA stage upon graduation. I play on Long and this will in its own way give them back their 'lost years'. ;)
  • Odd how they do this. In 2 college is a distinct age group for the duration so nothing is lost. The game gives you for free the time you need to complete the degree.

I don't understand why people can't switch aging to Long or disable it. You can freeze aging any time you want.
  • I have my ages fixed so that doesn't happen in my game. They are always YA still when they finish.
  • I failed out of my second term of college the first time around (didn't realize you had to have high skill levels for each particular degree...oops) and then by my 4th term, I had to get a potion of youth to age my Sim back down to the beginning of young adult. I guess extending the lifespan would be a workaround, but I agree that it does take really long. Especially since doing more than about 2 classes is nearly unmanageable.

I remember college taking longer in 2 and 3. But problem is, in those games, THEIR AGES FREEZE! Sims 4 is just like "Make them spend a minimum of 14 days in College!" and forget that they're constantly aging as the degree goes by.
  • I turned off aging in my game because I only take 2(possible 3) classes at a time.
