Detective career. How to reset the whole case

I think I had to quit the career and rejoin.

I've found going to another crime scene sometimes helps but not always. I tend to try that before quitting and rejoining.

I found this career pretty disappointing. There is no difference in what your sim does as they progress up the chain of command. Finally made it to chief and he still does the same thing he did as a beat cop....
