I play a lots of ways. It depends on my mood. Don't really care for generalizations and labeling people is not so great.
Not everyone fits into one particular group. My play style changes with my mood and what comes into my mind. My creativity has different levels. This is just a game and I think some people think to much and read into things but that's what makes us all different.
Colonist: replace all sims currently prepopulated in the world with their own creations
I do this and and I also delete townies that generate when my Sims travel. No problems with culling. Not really a play style. It's a preference. I do this with all saves either all at once or gradually.
Builder: replace all items in the world with player's own creations
I do this. I love building. I make the game my own.
Legacy / Family Player: creates an extensive family tree using only one sim
I have a legacy save that I have not played in a long time. I got 11 generations but it did not register as an accomplishment so I lost interest. I stayed out of CAS for 11 generations for nothing. It was very disappointing.
Laid-back: does not take the game seriously, plays for leisure and enjoys using cheats / cc depending upon the necessary purpose
I always take the game seriously. Aren't all games played for leisure? Something to do in my free time. My kids are grown and I only work 3 12 hour shifts a week and I live alone. I got a lot of time on my hands. I cheat needs at times and I toggle death sometimes. I do not use CC or mods right now but I have in the past.
Completionist: completes all game "goals" such as careers & aspirations
I do this and create super Sims with different traits. When I do not want to play this way I use super sims and just play the game and have parties, write stories etc.
Storyteller: performs actions in-game to create a story of which is written / depicted later
This goes hand in hand with my legacy.
Woohoo hound: enjoys woohooing, enough said
I did this when I was doing the player aspiration and the 100 baby challenge. He is one of my favorites to play but the save got corrupt before the 100 babies so I lost his girlfriends and what babies he had. He is safe in my library.
Today, I am going to work on a supersim and hopefully max the science career. I will also do a little building in newcrest and create some new Sims for my starter houses. I might start a new story with one of the new Sims. The possibilities are endless. That's why I play Sims games.
