One thing I found was that even on Ultra, my game, at least, had lighting set to High, not Very High. Once I changed that, the entire GAME looked better. The inside of the house is now along the lines of TS3, which I thought was dim compared to TS2.
Also, WINDOWS WINDOWS WINDOWS. I have big, huge windows on all my rooms, and the natural lighting is better. Someone said the height of the windows makes a difference, higher the better. And, lastly, fiddle with lighting. Some lights are better than others.
Sims 2 has better indoor lighting than Sims 3 for sure
