Well the thing about Sims games is that many players don't try to simulate a perfect life, or play as themselves. It is not about perfection and if it is then it will get boring with time believe me.
The Sims (especially older installments) have been about being able to tell every story no matter how crazy or chaotic. Many players just wanna do stuff they can't in real life. There are different playstyles and that's how the Sims always worked.
You're supposed to play with life and not just replicate life. Many people would find that boring.
Also if one Expansion Pack isn't for you, you don't have to buy it.
