Specialty forums like this one allow members to discuss their hobbies with like-minded individuals without everyone on the "Friends" list being made privy to it. Everyone that I know doesn't need to know that I have a Sims addiction. :D
Anyway, that's my two cents.
yeah I definitely agree with that. to keep it private you'd have to make like a second twitter I guess? and if you already use twitter a fair amount on your main account then that's an unnecessary hassle on top of the hassle of maintaining one/two twitter accounts. I do prefer the privacy (and specificity) of the forums.
