- Cynna10658 years agoSeasoned AceTo me, the review was well-written and it covered all the bases. I don't necessarily agree with the positive conclusion about the pack. However, I did agree with some of the suggestions. I especially agreed with the idea that the laundry shouldn't poof out of existence. Meanwhile, the players are expected to make a "fiction" that they went into a dresser. I would have greatly preferred that, if there were a dresser on the lot, the Sim would go to it and put the clothes inside. That is the kind of detail that was lost after TS2.
Regardless to my own personal feelings about yet another stuff pack (a stuff pack about laundry, no less), I thought that it was a good review. - icemanfresh8 years agoLegendI wouldn't say literally everyone wanted it, but I do agree that the furniture is good. I like the wicker seating.
And I think it has so many rugs because they had some time to do the other ones. - Good review and nice to see they even had a few suggestions. Reviewers often state the faults of a pack, and the things they like best, but they rarely give a well thought out idea that could actually be used in a Sims game. So yes - spot on for me.
- I wish it maybe hadn't stated that the pack was worth 10$ because that is subjective and I just personally have issues with subjective things being stated as facts, but that's a personal pet peeve not necessarily that the review is bad. Also it's price is not 10$ across the board, it would have been nice for that to have been acknowledged for us 13$ sp countries.
I disagree with some things, for example I don't think it necessary for sims to carry laundry to the dresser to put it away, I think that is just animation to eat up time for the sake of it personally.
I found it a little bit to much of a bias in it's side comments but most reviews tend to carry a bias so I also don't fault it too much for that, although my favorite reviews tend to carry less bias and side comments instead focusing more on just what the pack offers, allowing me to make up my own mind.
Otherwise it explored the all the packs main features, which is really all I ask of a review. That's my analysis of this review. - Cynna10658 years agoSeasoned Ace

I beg to differ. A review is meant for the writer to give their personal opinion. That's what reviews are for. What you may have been looking for was a pack overview? "Cynna;c-16285951" wrote:

I suppose so.
Opinions are ok, I don't like when the opinion is everywhere and is is assumed to be the truth. Basically I did not like how this one gave it's opinions.
for exampleSpoiler"...laundry... it’s always been weirdly enjoyable through the history of The Sims and this version is no different."
This is a line I don't like, it assumes too much about the reader and states it like it is a fact. There is no maybe or qualifier in it.
If the writer had said
"I have always enjoyed..."
or
"If you liked laundry in the past you will probably enjoy this"
I would not have minded, but the way it is written disregards any alternative. Again it might just be my peeve of subjective being stated as objective, but this is something I really do not enjoy in a review.
They had other comments that were fine too though ieSpoiler"I loved the fact watching the laundry spin can give Sims the dazed moodlet."
There was just enough other ones that rubbed me the wrong way.
There is also these commentsSpoilerThere’s a decent number of clothes for a stuff pack as well, and they are all something you’d picture someone wearing at the beach with the wind blowing through the cotton. Plain summer short sleeve shirts and tanks, ripped jeans, an oversized henley and layered open buttoned shirts give Sims the, “I woke up like this,” look. I would have liked one of the hairstyles to be a tight curl option, but in the end, that was the community's choice, not the content creators.
This is not true the community didn't get to pick hairstylesSpoiler...it’s interesting to see a stuff pack with barely any complaints from the community.
This is also not true, at least on the forums, there has been massive arguments about if laundry was even worth doing and lots of people bitter about the theme picked. While it might not be the majority of the community, I don't think barely is an accurate description of people who are not impressed.SpoilerCan we really critique the Sims team for doing exactly what the community asked for?
This comment along with the other two above, feel way to much like using the bandwagon technique for my comfort level.I don't like it when a review is questioning other opinions. It should give its own and give the overview, not comment on if we can or can not criticize something.
I would have much preferred if the community and dev team were left out of the discussion, with only the merits of the pack mentioned, because it isn't a review on the community and mentioning it should not be necessary. I think mentioning that it was community picked is fine, because it was, but bringing it up through out, didn't need to happen and should not impact the comments made.
I also like a specific kind of opinion being shared for instanceSpoilerThe one aspect of laundry that could use work are the process of folding and putting away. Considering the dresser has barely any uses, it would have been nice to see a Sim actually fold (maybe Sims with the neat trait fold well and slobs fold terribly) each piece of clothing and walk to the hamper to put them in. An animation trail from the washer, to a surface to fold, then to the dresser where they have to neatly fit them in would have brought the pack to another level.
This has a problem, and mentions how it could be fixed/why the writer thinks it should be fixed. I didn't agree with it myself but I did like this way of sharing their opinion
same withSpoilerIt’s also a nice touch to make Sims clean out the lint. If you don’t, a fire could start and all your friends will know you died from doing laundry.
orSpoilerThe additives are the aspect of laundry that makes gameplay more interesting. Unlock more interactions, add flowers or food scents from your inventory to your clothes
.
It says what is good and gives an example how. (It adds more danger to play, and adds something to work for)
This comment howeverSpoilerThere were over 100 options during the vote… which is crazy to think about. The wicker furniture, wall shelves, succulent plants, industrial hanging light bulb, and six seater round dining table are the standouts.
We can't see the furneture all we know is they like it. They don't explain why though, they just say it stands out. This isn't bad it just doesn't give me a whole lot to work with as a reader. I might have mentioned that, we haven't had any wicker furniture before, or it allows designers to work with a new art style.
For the table, I might mention how it is a nice way to seat more people in less space.
Again the vote comment I don't think was needed or on topic for the pack.
There were a lot of comments that were close to good like when the writer mentions the responsibility trait,SpoilerLaundry is tied into the responsibility trait, which is a cool way to spice up how your kid can end up as a decent person.
It can be inferred that they liked that aspect because it increases cross pack play. Or maybe they liked new ways to raise kids, or maybe they just liked more kid activities.
This comment could have used just a little bit more to explain how it fleshed out, I know they like it, but is it for all the reasons above or only one or two? This gives a positive bias without any back up which for me makes it seem biased in a bad way, or that the writer thinks I should just take their opinion for granted.
They also didn't mention that a player needed the parenthood GP for this too work and by not mentioning that someone who didn't know packs as well, might get confused about the responsibility thing.
I expect opinion and bias in a review, the ones I like best don't focus on it though and don't give it like it is a fact. When they give an opinion they also explain why and how it relates to the game play.
Like I said it wasn't a bad review, I thought it was pretty average.
Now I have typed too much and feel like I have given a mini review on a review, but I hope it clarified my expectations a bit more. :)

Thank you for clarifying. All of your points are well taken. In particular, I also raised an eyebrow at the comment that the community barely complained about the laundry pack. Automatically, I assumed that, wherever the reviewer tends to read community commentary, he or she saw very few complaints. Still, you made very good points that I ultimately agree with.
To clarify myself: my post wasn't about your likes or dislikes regarding the review. More so, it was about the idea (one that I've been seeing a lot on the forums lately) that a reviewer shouldn't give their own subjective opinion. However, that's what any review is a about -- one person's opinion. To me, how the opinion was stated is a totally different subject. "Cynna;c-16288288" wrote:

That's fair. My first post wasn't the best worded. I was talking about how it was worded in terms of opinion not that it was given, it's why I tried to clarify what I meant, because I wasn't quite sure how to explain it. :)
Thanks for reading that all by the way, I know it was long, and full of typos (sorry, I tried to catch them)
