I don't cheat skills or careers. When I see a Game Changer cheat skills, careers, or relationships I stop watching because they're not really playing the game. Why bother pretending that there's a story when you can just cheat everything to be the way you want it to be? I can do that myself without watching someone else do it.
I recently downloaded a save file and was disappointed to find that the skills, careers, relationships, and household funds of almost every household in the save file had been cheated, many of them to max level. I only kept one vampire and two builds out of the whole thing. I did get to see the amount of work it takes to set up a save file though.
I don't like it when the game cheats skill levels up either. I see this happen at the Romance Festival when Candy Behr or Cassandra Goth show up with level 10 painting. I also see this at Geek-Con when Gavin Richards, Hugo Villareal, or Wolfgang Munch show up with level 8 to 10 Programming to compete in the Hackathon. Ditto for karaoke contests - Nancy and Geoffrey Landgraab frequently saunter in with level 10 Singing. I've had Mila Munch and Joaquin Le Chen appear with level 10 Fitness when the game decides to use one or both of them as a gym trainer or lifeguard. I've also had the game use Mila as a yoga instructor. If I ever decide to play any of these characters then I'm going to have to fix them because the game meddled.
Cheating stuff like skills seems to be the way to go for players telling a story because it saves time. Even the game does it.
