Do you dress your sims based on their....

Personality? Or do you have certain outfits you like to use on all of your sims? I used to stick with certain outfits from TS2 and TS3 more than I chose outfits to fit their personality.

There used to be some sweaters from sims 2 that I would put on all of my sims for the cold weather. They were preppy looking. There was an orange with a navy and white stripe just around the chest area. I would dress my female sims in khaki capris and a long sleeve untucked shirt for around the house.

in Sims4, I try to make the outfit appropriate to that sim. I made a Penelope Garcia (character from Criminal Minds) wardrobe more fun and colorful like her on the show. She is the hacker/tech guru. I've played that sim for the past two weeks so I can take her to the limit in her career. She already maxed out her programming skill.

sorry to get off track! I just love that sim.

Do you find yourself playing one or two sims a lot more than the other ones you made???

  • I try my best to dress my sims based off the personalities I have set for them in my head. So times I get it right, others times not so much. :) But I at least try.

I usually try to dress based on personality/what I imagine their favorite color would be. I also do their bedrooms based on this! :) I'm a legacy person, but honestly I've never gotten passed the second generation. LOL.
  • I dress them based on personality and what I feel suits their appearance.

It's so strange to me to dress sims according to a specific color. I dress my sims by their personality, but I won't limit them to a single color. Some sims might stick to a certain color palette (like red & black), but typically it's a free for all when I choose what my sims wear. Though I do find myself picking some items repeatedly, but that's just because it falls in line with my own person style.

I do have a few questions for people who color code their sims. How do you decide which sim gets what color? Are all outfits limited to that single color even if it's not as accessible in an outfit category (ex. finding a yellow cold weather outfit)?

For example, for twins, I decided that one of them should wear all green and the other one will be all red, by making them contra. All their belonging or rooms will be in the same colour. It is just based on my preference of which Sims will get what colour as long as they are not wearing the same colour scheme in the same household (after all, it's only up to 8 colours, the most). As if like giving them another 'personality' based on colour.

Although at most, I try to give them outfit based on their personality/trait, say 'active, perfectionist & hates children'. It's kinda hard to come up with a cloth / wardrobe, that can suit these traits... at least for me. So, it will be easier just to colour code them instead of giving them stereotypical cloth based on 'active' for example = athletic cloth.. (In my legacy game, I randomised their traits, aspirations, and career - so, I have less control in giving them the personality/traits that I will most likely give)

Are all outfits limited to that single color even if it's not as accessible in an outfit category (ex. finding a yellow cold weather outfit)?

For cloths category that doesn't have the same colour, for example, yellow, I will choose the dress that has at least had a yellowish / gold bit of colour on the cloth, or accessorised them with yellow hats but with neutral cloth. It is hard, but I don't want the Sims to wear almost the same cloth for generations..

    Hope it makes sense.. :)

For me the color coding isn't strict....like if I want a certain shirt for a sim but it doesn't come in what I think of as their favorite color, I'm still gonna have them wear that shirt, most likely. But if I've decided my sim's favorite color is green, and the shirt comes in green, that's probably the one I'm going to give them (unless it looks really dumb for some reason). I usually pick the color based on their personalities and what color(s) would look good on them. I also try to make it so there is some variety among the household (i.e. it would be boring if all the boys liked blue and all the girls liked pink).

And yep, I am strange and I own my strangeness

Yep, it's kinda strange to dress them according to a specific colour, but I found it's quite challenging to dress them once I set the rules. For the same reason that I try to avoid dressing them with similar clothes repeatedly or to suit my style. After all, it will be interesting to dress them beyond my style..
  • I try to. I find CAS items a little bit lacking in terms of edgier personalities. I feel like my sims end up looking like Mr Rogers. I do place a heavy bias on my sims to look like me, although I am trying to restrict that. It's fun to have differing people.

I dress my sims in a combination of favorite color and personality. Depending on the sim i either have 1 favorite color for them or 2-3 favorite colors.
Easiest example would be my seasons girls:
Winter: white, light blue and grey. Her hair is white too and skin very light. Her style is more on the concervative side.
Spring: light pink and light green. Her skin is slightly darker than winter, her hair is strawberry blond. Her style is more romantic.
Summer: yellow (hot pink and turqoise for her room, might change her clothing a bit too). She's black, hairstyles include braids and curls. She is the most outgoing one. Flirt, definately shows off the most skin.
Autumn: muted yellow, red, dark green and orange, basically autumn colors. Has natural red hair, freckles. Loves different knitted clothes, wears mostly skirts or dresses.
