Do you ever cheat a sim's skills for story/character reasons?

I've never done this, but I'm starting a new game and my main sim will be a late-60's hippy dude who I've imagined as a guitar-toting, VW bus driving, peace-loving, vagabond-type. I'm thinking that...

I definitely do it but I am quite limited on what I do with it and when I do it. My general rule of thumb is that I will do it on my personal Sim and then on a particular household if there is are specific things I want to steer the narrative towards.
