It has disappointed me on so many levels I am actually upset with myself for preordering it! And no matter how excited and thrilled the gurus say they are about whatever is coming next....well, let's just say I won't fall for that song and dance again. I really do love the island and how gorgeous it is. But that is where my love ends. This pack is filled with bugs, reused animations from past packs, gameplay that means nothing in the overall scheme of what an EP is supposed to be, no island specific whims such as going swimming in the ocean (but I am still getting the same 'buy a bee box' whim over and over), no new culture to learn, elemental beings that share nothing about the history of the island or it's culture (they hand out buffs rather than anything meaningful), rabbithole careers, deep sea diving and an explorable cave, glass floor tiles to place on decks above the water but there is nothing to see unless one likes to look only at stilts, one Sim only on aqua zips and boats, no new culture-based dance to learn, the Islanders act as if everything your Sim owns is up for grabs at any time during the day or night, lounge chairs that are very disappointing when our Sims can only sunbathe or drink while lounging, a conservation career that needed a bit more depth for lasting gameplay, and so the entire pack feels unfinished for some reason. The pre-ep update added more to the game than this expansion did, in my opinion. And the update was free. My biggest disappointment is this feeling I have the teams just didn't put enough effort into creating more than a pretty world and a ton of B/B and CAS assets, and mermaids were added for the sole reason to make this pack feel as if it's a real expansion pack. But the mermaids also lack depth when compared to vampires and how well they were done. Vampires came with a new small world. Mermaids didn't even get an underwater lot built just for them. Even one small underwater lot for mermaids only would have been a nice touch. The gurus have been fond of calling this pack a 'new experience' for our Sims. I guess if one is inclined to enjoy watching our Sims swimming, building sandcastles, hunting for a few new collectibles and lounging in the sun, it can be called an experience. But after all the hype that came out of EA Play I was expecting more for that forty dollar price tag.
