- cyncieSeasoned VeteranI don’t, really. I like that sims live in their own world, with their own language and their own customs.
- I used to create my own fictional settings, because I enjoy worldbuilding.
But as of late my sims live in the near future in Detroit/USA and Windsor/Canada. I don't care for what the vegetation suggests, for example Del Sol Valley is needed to be part of Detroit, because the game lacks in urban neighborhoods. I force snow in Del Sol Valley with mods and if someone asks about the palm trees, then my sims will tell you "Yeah, a former Mayor thought it was a good idea to plant them here."
I tried to recreate Belle Isle on Windenburg island (I put the abandoned zoo, the aquarium with the speakeasy basement, the conservatory and the James Scott Memorial fountain) and for my YAs that attend the MIT in Cambridge I also built a smaller version of The Sponge dorm. But other than that I'm not faithful to the architecture, I just use lot names like "Corktown", "Sherwood Forest" and "Michigan Drive" without trying to make them look the part.
Sulani and Selvadorada I kept as fictional places with their own government and history, to scratch the worldbuilding itch. - No because real world will never capture my heart as Forgotten Hollow and Magic Town (ts1) do
in fact I'd love to see more fantasy elements in sim worlds because I am kinda getting tired of the same old lawns and i mean its a game we could have something more exciting
that being said am not against cultural inspo and some occult goes great with regions such as tombs of egypt with mummies or ancient china feat dragons or whatever and I do think we could really use some more architecture styles in game too - mightyspritesimsRising HotshotFor me, Sim worlds are a fictional place on planet Earth, but I don't like to incorporate much else that happens on the real planet Earth into my game's stories.
- My towns are sorta based on real places. Brindleton Bay, Massachusetts. Willow Creek, Louisiana. Del Sol Valley, California. Oasis Springs, Nevada. And so on and so forth but it would be unlikely that someone would travel from Massachusetts to California to do their homework in the library there. Most of my towns, although they have different weather systems, are neighboring towns with reasonable traveling distance.
- atreya33Seasoned AceMy sims live in the sims world and that's how I like it. I actually prefer sim worlds to be a bit more generic and not real world places. That way it is easier to feel my sims actually belong in a certain environment. So for me limiting a sims world to one specific real life location limits the use of a place. If a sims world is one specific country than that implies the sims who live there are residents of a real life country. I prefer sims to be neutral. I am not interested in playing a European sim or an American sim or any nationality. My sims world is not devided in different nations.
Perhaps travel destinations like in the sims 3 world adventures are the exception, those feel different because sims are only visiting. - Reddestiny921Seasoned VeteranI guess you could imagine it certain ways and design your sims to fit ideas but there are many nasty people who would see it as an attack because something was missed or left out no matter the reason. It wouldn't be worth it to go too into detail.
- It would invariably cause trouble for how accurately depicted any designated real place was, and what counted as stereotypes, what counted as admiration, and what counted as appropriation. All that can be avoided by hinting ar a sims world being similar to a place, but with the disclaimer that " no real persons places or events are depicted."
That is a very i.portant disclaimer for protection against lawsuits. - NateWhiplashSeasoned HotshotThere are some worlds that I tend to think of as places in the US. Some of them are; Oasis Springs = Arizona, Windenburg = Chicago, Sulani = Hawaii, and Del Sol = Los Angeles. But there are some that I never really thought about as having a direct equivalent in the US
- I tend to regard the various worlds as "inspired by... (place)". An homage, if you like. That being said, I haven't seen an outback Australia world yet. C'mon EA, get cracking : )
