do you make a partner for your sim or find NPC?

I almost always go with NPCs. The first generation marries a randomly generated NPC. The 2nd generation marries his/her childhood friend, born in-game via MCCC. Sometimes, if there aren't enough sims born, or everyone's taken, I have to add sims from the gallery.

I always let them find someone! Even if it is a sim I create, I don't start any initial relations or anything

I've gotten sick of most of the existing pre-mades so I usually start with a save that has most of them gone, and throw in a bunch of random gallery sims. I don't normally create sims myself specifically to have my played sims find and get together with, though. I do sometimes create households with existing partnerships from the start.

I have never made a partner for any of my sims. (Unless I made a family Mom/Dad in create a sim). The vast majority have found their partner via NPC or one of the pre-made families. I have also downloaded some sims from the gallery just to add different sims to my game that weren't just generated by the game. I currently have one sim born in the game who has gotten engaged to a sim I got from the gallery. I am sure I will soon have sims that were born in the game getting together.

Make them because I rarely interact with sims I didn't create. I periodically go through and delete the generated sims and replace them with my own.

I like to create sims so won't likely have them go with a townies-I have something planned for them.. ;)

I'm usually ending up with changing a little bit some NPCs, usually their looks, sometimes traits. If there's no one interesting or I have a very specific story in mind, I create one myself from the scratch.

I don't play strict legacies, so it depends where my mood takes me.

In my current main save, I took two of the premades from the library in Base Game (Ollie and Cassidy Purdue -- they're a brother/sister pair), tweaked them just a bit (new clothes/hairstyles) and started playing them. Ollie met his soulmate courtesy of the Wishing Well, while Cassidy had a fling with Gunther Munch and had a baby with him. Complication though was that thanks to MC Command Center he was married to Summer (nee Holiday) who had twin boys (Cameron and Emory) from Gavin Richards. I broke them up by getting them to fight and Summer divorced Gunther; Cameron went to live with his birth father Gavin and Gunther took Emory and moved in with Cassidy and her son Jaxon. Eventually they moved to a larger house (Cassidy was working in Public Relations and Gunther was starting his writing career), had a daughter, Michaela, and got married. Because Cameron and Emory are not blood relatives, I might have Cameron marry Ollie's oldest daughter Kiara (he and his wife Aicha also have twins, Jamal and Jamilah), and Emory might end up with Michaela but we'll see if that works out.

I love doing makeovers for premades and game-generated Sims, especially right after we've gotten a new pack. If I have to wait for mods to update I'll usually use that time for doing makeovers so I can check over all the new CAS and see what goes well with the older CAS for new outfits.

In my game I usually just look for female NPC's, but if my heir just so happens to be an heiress I create a male Sim. Because I can never find a townie male that looks good enough for my girls.
