Do you upgrade old homes and sims with new pack content?

My game is like a history book of styles! I just realized that I hardly ever upgrade my sims or their homes with new BB/CAS content. Most sims I created when I got base game, still have hair and cloth...

My games are like a time capsule, I only update a few community lots in the base game, for example, I have an edited version of the gym in Willow Creek that has the rock climbing machines from a pack.
