Do your sims look like their parents and elder ancestors?

I've been creating family trees and seeing how much traits pass down. I have it on my other computer though, but I can post some pics later. I realized some of my CC was messing up the eye color genetics, so I ended up abandoning that family and starting over, but I think I have about 4-5 generations on that one.

It does look like features are passed down. I'd definitely be interested in knowing more about it. I wonder if the gurus would share some information on genetics.
