Doctors See Same Patients Every Day, Sickness is Boring and Does Not Feel Random at All
This has really been bothering me lately. Has anyone else noticed how doctors will end up treating the exact same patients every day? I always have a huge pool of townies at any given time, and yet I only see the same four or five Sims in the beds every day my doctor goes to work. For me, it's ALWAYS Baako Jang, Katrina Caliente, Mortimer Goth, and the landlord (when I'm playing in San Myshuno) in the beds. And it gets worse. If my doctor gets a house call, those exact same Sims will be the ones who are sick, and they're always in the hospital beds AGAIN when he goes back, even though he already treated them twice! I really would love to have some variation in my patients from day to day.
There just doesn't seem to be any randomness to sickness. It's so boringly repetitive. Even now, unless I'm playing a Sim in the doctor career, my Sims VERY rarely get sick. And even then, it's never any illness that requires them to go to the hospital. I think it would be neat if that could happen, albeit significantly more rarely than illnesses that are treatable by medicine and home remedies.
For example, there could be some indicators that your Sim might have an illness which requires surgery. When trying to utilize home remedies such as napping, drinking orange juice, or drinking tea, they'll never get the happy "combating cold" moodlet. And when they try to take medicine, they could get a dazed moodlet instead of the normal energized moodlet. It could say something along the lines of, "that medicine should have worked. Why does still feel so out of sorts?" When attempting home remedies or taking medicine, it also wouldn't get rid of the negative moodlets caused by the illness.
And yes, Sims that go too long without treating an illness requiring surgery CAN die. Although the other two illnesses of the sort can still kill Sims if left untreated for too long, the Triple Threat is by FAR the most life-threatening of the three. This one, while also being the rarest random illness, can kill Sims within three days, while death by Burning Belly and Itchy Plumbob would take a whole week.
It would also be cool if Sims who die from this end up with unique ghosts. I'm not sure what the ghosts for the Triple Threat and Itchy Plumbob would look like, but I could imagine a Burning Belly ghost having a little flame burning in their belly.
What are your thoughts?
