Documenting Generations?

I like playing for multiple generations, and I document them in a program outside the game (mostly because the family tree always gets messed up in game). I'm wondering if others who do this might share how they set it up? What program do you use etc? I'm starting over after my long running save was corrupted, and I want to try a better way of keeping track. Now I just save a list of names for each generation, along with wedding photos and a photo at each life stage. New ideas are very much welcome :)

One Note is pretty good at keeping information on sims. I've not really toyed with it in a little while (been lazy lately). Excel is good for keeping up with aspirations and traits, though it's a bit time consuming to set up.
  • The plum tree app is actually made specifically for doing sims family trees.
I've fiddled with it a bit, but I get so ridiculously perfectionistic about trying to put in everything about every sim that I end up frustrating myself. If you're even slightly less crazy than I am, you'll probably get more out of it than I do. As far as I can tell it only lets you use one picture per sim, though.
  • Thank you both :)
I didn't know of an app, I'll check into that.
    Keep the great ideas coming!
