I had a similar discovery some time ago, I did not even recall what kind of stuff was exhibited in the old Willow Creek museum. Visiting it made me laugh, because it naturally felt very primitive based on a few objects that came with the base game. We got so much more interesting historical or different culture items after all these packs!
So, together with my region's played history (I have a detailed backstory for my game spanning 225 years and including lots of painted portraits, historical jewelry and a few old high nobility specific heirlooms. My museums also have Patrons from the nobility community. So, I'm currently having periodical themed exhibitions, which means just a part of the museum gets updated, but still adds more fun to actually having my sims visiting it.
