Does anyone know the point of the "Whisper Quiet" upgrade?

Well, here's a pack that doesn't get many topics posted about it anymore...

I'm just curious if anyone knows the actual point of upgrading a washer/dryer with "Whisper Quiet"?

I'm having a sim do various upgrades around their apartment right now and it occurred to me I've literally never bothered doing that one. I can't figure out why I'd want it, unless I have Sims sleeping in the same room as a running laundry machine, I guess. But ... you know, just wait until the morning to do laundry in that case.

We can discuss the Washer and Dryer getting engaged to each other so that they have a Wedding to plan, if that will help get responses.

  • I think it makes the machine run a bit quieter. I remember giving this upgrade to one of my sims but she was living alone in a house, so I didn't notice other effects. I do have a sim living in San Myshuno and her neighbour is almost everyday knocking on her door because of the noise, but she doesn't use the machine that often, think it's because of the radio.
  • I never use that upgrade because I like the sounds of the washer/dryer/dishwashers. I'm assuming it just lowers the sound of the machines. I never considered it might be because of sleeping. So, I just tested this out in my game. I put a bed next to the washer and dryer (no Whisper Quiet upgrade), ran the laundry, and made my Sims sleep. They never woke up. I guess it's just an extra option if someone doesn't like the sounds.
  • Oh, wait, are you saying that the noise of a washer/dryer might make neighbors in an apartment complain, @Crocobaura?

I have a cheat sheet for the game where I add information as I gather it for playing and one of the things in there is a list of all of the activities that upset apartment neighbors. I don't have washer/dryer on the list currently, but maybe I just never did laundry at night with Sims in an apartment. They only complain when you do the stuff after 10pm and before.. uh.. like 7 am? I know 10pm for sure, i'm not sure what the cutoff is in the morning.

This is what I have on the list at the moment:
    1. Working out
    2. Playing video games
    3. Watching TV
    4. Listening to music or playing instruments
    5. Woohoo
    6. Maybe arguing/fighting

Yes, I think it may make neighbours complain. But my sim has the radio on almost all the time, so that might be why they complain so often.

Thanks for testing it out, I was thinking of doing the same thing!

It could just be for players, I guess. I'm like you, I like to hear it, because once I don't I know it's done.
  • It doesn’t seem to bother my sims (so far?), so I assume it’s more for the players.
  • @Stormkeep I was curious about the apartment noise, so I quickly tested it out. I tried the washer/dryer in an apartment (2B Jasmine and 17 Culpepper) at 1:30 AM. I made sure autonomy was off and nothing else was on except the washer/dryer. Not a single neighbor knocked on my door to complain. Doesn't necessarily rule it out, but I do think the upgrade might be for the player's sake.
